I hope they turn it around and Utley gets back swinging a big stick (PiP bait) and Brown is half the player many think he will be. It's been a while since the Phillies had a bad offensive team. They are not fun to watch, even when the pitching is great for the good guys.

I think they are close to rock bottom at the moment, so I feel pretty good going forward, mostly. They need to start putting some pressure on the opposing pitcher, whether that's by hits or walks or steals or whatever. They are making it pretty easy on them right now. Good offenses work pitchers enough to get them out after 5 or 6 and get into the soft part of the pen. One thing Werth was really good at was making pitchers throw pitches.

Can't say I've followed McDowell's public statements all that closely but those few instances I can recall seeing/hearing him in action he seemed relatively non-Rocker-like, especially for someone who's also passed through the mets organization.

That's the only thing that permits me to hold out hope that there's a grimy-yet-exculpatory subtext to this made-for-tv incident - for the good of all baseball!
