Is this a convoluted way of saying that when Utley returns, Martinez goes down?

He can't go down can he? He has to be offered back to the Nats correct?

What he has shown? You mean his single start? Phan doesn't give cups of coffee, just a packet of Sanka and hot water thrown in your face.

could he possibly be worse than Valdez? He also plays more positions than Valdez does and is 4 years younger.

Search isn't working for me and I'm old and confused by all these changes so I can't find anything. which is all a preface to saying I found this wonderful quote in Mets Refugees:

I was talking with my buddy during softball, and he had the idea, for Madison closing. Just tell him it's still the 8th inning.

Which made me realize I'd missed the original story.

"There's no question that we think that Ryan is a great fit for us, but Ryan has not proven to us he can be a closer in the major leagues," Phillies GM Ruben Amaro said. "Can that happen? That's possible. Can we necessarily rely on him to be that guy? I don't think so."

...

"Ryan Madson is Ryan Madson," pitching coach Rich Dubee said when prodded for his thoughts on Madson's potential for success in the ninth inning this year. "What did he do, take a crash course in how to close or something?"

Has this been discussed elsewhere?

Updating a previous item, Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said Tuesday that Chase Utley (knee) is not close to jogging.
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reported earlier today that Utley is expected to begin a running program in the next few days, but that's apparently not the case. In fact, Amaro said that Utley is still experiencing some discomfort while fielding grounders. There's still no realistic timetable for his return.

So that means he's in the starting lineup tomorrow?

Baltimore's front office is 'poking around' for No. 5 starter types, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter). The undefeated Orioles have allowed just one run in each of their first four games, but now that Brian Matusz is on the 15-day disabled list with an intercostal strain, the team's rotation is thinner than expected.

Cyle (2.70 ERA!) for Reimold (who was optioned to Norfolk at end of ST), do ittt

You know you spend too much time here when you misread that as "joboggi".

Baseball Prospectus has us in the comfortable and familiar second place in third order wins.
http://www.baseballprospectus.com/standings/

Tonight's win not in the standing. While it surely won't put the Phils ahead of the 3-3 Braves, it might drop the 3-2 Mets to last, so that would be something.

Upon closer inspecting, those standings appear to be second order standings.

Actually, that doesn't appear quite correct either. It looks like the have the Braves ahead of the Phillies for no particular reason at all. (Though the Braves do have a better RS/RA ratio.)

I don't think there's a player in baseball I enjoy watching more than Howard when he's locked in like this.
