19-5, 2.59 ERA, 212 IP, 216K, 1.12 WHIP

how will that beat Halladay's 23-4, 2.01 ERA - 0.99 WHIP - 210 K?

or Lee's 21-5, 2.25 ERA - 1.02 WHIP - 205 K?

But I saw someone in the Phils dugout in the footage of whom I have never heard, nor seen before--a guy wearing the uniform number 13 named "Wendell." A Google search yielded nothing. It wasn't Turk. I don't remember a coach of that name.

Anyone have any idea? This is going to torment me.

Google search results talk about Schmidt having a friend and "celebrity bat boy" named Bruce Wendell. Can't find the source article though.

Here's some corroborating info on Bruce Wendell being that guy

Most impressive, Grotes. Thanks.

That the guy got his own uni number is what struck me. Am I remembering correctly that Turk was #13 on the Phils? (edit: yes indeedy.) I know Wagner was, and I don't think it's been issued since.

Hamels has thrown the ball brilliantly in early workouts. Pitching coach Rich Dubee has remarked that the lefthander looks as if he could take the mound in a big-league game right now and win. Dubee has also said that, a week into camp, Hamels is throwing harder than he did at any point last spring. Over the last two winters, Hamels has dedicated himself to an offseason strength and conditioning program that includes throwing - and it shows.

I read stuff like that and it makes these weeks of spring training seem even longer. Fuck this waiting until April shit. I want meaningful Phillies baseball now.

I read somewhere that this story doesn't mention Dubee added "and all that's when he's throwing righthanded"

I appreciate what this article is trying to communicate, but the line above struck me as a little silly - it makes it sound as if Hamels is a raw and unpolished 17 year old they just drafted, or a 58 year old retiree. "He looks like he could go out there right now and WIN!!!'

Well, he is a World Series MVP in the prime of his career... what should I think if it looked like Hamels would get his ass handed to him right now if he went out and tried to put in five innings of three run ball against the Pirates?
"I'm in a bar with the games sound turned off and that Cespedes home run still sounded like inevitability."

-swish
