5-1 in Halladay starts
8-9 in non-Halladay starts

Our pitching stats look better than you'd expect with the staff as it currently is because Roy has started more than 1/4 of our games. He's pitched 49 of our 204 pitching innings so far. Our team ERA is 4.15. Our team ERA minus Halladay is 4.99.

Was it ever answered if Kendrick ignored the bunt sign in that at bat where he flied out? That probably sealed his fate... well that and being a terrible pitcher.

The alternative is Andrew Carpenter, so whatever. Happ can't get back quickly enough.

It's worth noting how horribly Carpenter has done in AAA too. In 16 1/3 IP he has 8 BBs and 6 Ks to go along with 21 hits. If there was such a thing as replacement level for AAA, he'd be below it right now

The other LHV starters other than Mazone have crappy peripherals too

Savery has 9 walks against 9 Ks with 3 HRs in 15 IP

Nate Bump has a 3.00 ERA in 30 IP but only 13 Ks and 7 BBs. 51% GBs, good but not exactly Brandon Webb-esque

Vogelsong has 24 Ks in 26 innings, but 20 BBs too. No thanks

Mazone has a 4.67 ERA in 27 IP, with 3 BBs and 19 K. He'd probably be my choice to make 1 start for the Phils if they put a gun to my head

At Reading, Flande has good ERA but crap peripherals (6 BBs vs 6 Ks in 23 2/3 IP), Aumont had a really bad start today with 5 walks in 1 2/3 after two good starts, Worley and Naylor have poor overall numbers, and Cisco has 10 Ks in 22 IP

In summary, help is not on the way from the minors

Yeah, I was thinking Figgy but I guess we need him for the pen.

Aumont could still end up being a good pitcher, I am talking strictly in the terms of extremely short-term options to take Kendrick's place for a turn or two though. As bad as Kendrick is, no one is pitching well enough to deserve any type of promotion on the farm

"I don't know if we have too many other options," Dubee said when asked if Kendrick would make his next start. "He's got to pick it up, though."

Dubee said he likes what Figueroa has provided for the Phillies, but added "I don't know if I like him as a rotation guy."

Didn't see it. I guess this means Kendrick will be getting more than 1 or 2 starts.

When could the Phillies realistically look into adding Pedro (easy Moz)?

I always just assumed it would be mid-July like last year, but will the injuries alter that?

But wasn't he called back up for Madson? No, I guess that was Lidge being activated.

Looking at the standings on ESPN.com, the Phils' run differential is only middle-of-the-pack among teams in the plus column. And they are only 4 games over .500.

I liked it better when they were totally the best team in the league. Beat the SHIT out of the Cardinals, fellas.

Victorino apparently changed his name:

GOAT OF THE DAY: Johan Santana, New York Mets. Santana, the former Cy Young winner proved he's human in the Philadelphia Phillies' 11-5 victory over New York. Yes, even he can get rattled by a screaming crowd of 40,000 at Citizens Bank Park. They hooted and howled as Santana coughed up eight runs alone in the fourth inning. He has given up only seven runs all year. It was the worst inning of Santana's career, spanning 1,744 innings. He not only walked in 47-year-old pitcher Jamie Moyer, but he gave up a grand slam to Shane Victorian.
"It shouldn't be a problem,'' Moyer said. "Forty thousand-plus people don't have bats."

Still, it resurrected memories of Brett Myers' nine-pitch walk against CC Sabbath in Game 2 of the 2008 Division Series against Milwaukee, with Victorian also following with a grand slam.

"I was definitely getting caught up in all that," Victorian told the Philadelphia Daily News. "It was pretty loud. That's the atmosphere this crowd has created. I guess you could say it was a deja-VI situation.

"Did [the crowd noise] have something to do with it? Maybe. There were 45,000 people screaming and yelling and maybe he got a little flustered. I don't know but maybe it got to him a little bit."

Santana, who wound up giving up 10 runs in just 3 2/3 innings, said: "Just a rough night. It was one of those days where whatever I did, didn't work out."
