Just made a bet with my Dodger crazy co-worker about who had the better 5th starter- Phillies & Pedro vs. Dodgers & Padilla. Bet made based on who has the majority of the 5 best following pitching stats (W's, K's, ERA, WHIP, Innings pitched) over the course of September.

Easiest $10 ever, right?

Except that it never rains in Southern California and you're using 3 counting stats.

I'd like to think that the odds are against any additional Pedro rainouts. It's a good point, though.

Hanley Ramirez and Dan Uggla had an argument in the Marlins' clubhouse about Ramirez's early departure from Tuesday's game due to a hamstring injury.
Uggla accused Ramirez of not caring about the team because he has a $70 million contract, while Ramirez feels insulted by some teammates' belief that he faked an injury to preserve his league-leading .355 batting average in the midst of an 0-for-14 slump.

The Marlins are the new Mets

Smoltz wasn't quite as good today since he wasn't pitching to the lowly Padres or Nats.

Currently at 996. I can't imagine they'd let him get to that, but that's not that many PA left for a guy who still starts fairly regularly and is hitting better in the second half.

Only 36 PA needed with 29 games left

.320 .397 .508 .905 since July 1. They are in a tough spot. They're trying to win and he's helping.
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

What on earth is Victorino doing in the September photo of the official Phillies WFC 2009 calendar?

The outsize rewards associated with making the postseason, and doing well once you're there, kind of make it obvious, I would hope... although it isn't my money.

Interesting. I'm pretty sure Pedro pushed himself up above 100 tonight. I checked back through 2000 and couldn't find one instance where the five starters who ended the year in the rotation maintained an ERA+ of 100 or better.

I'll take a complete shot in the dark.

Vicente Padilla
Carlos Zambrano

And for last year, I'll just say Padilla again.
