There's talk of it but it's pretty complicated I'd guess.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

MLB's way of apologizing for American imperialism in Latin America. Give them a better shake than the domestic players.

Because MLB doesn't operate like that?

Plus you'd have to then figure out what to do with the Asian players too, what with the whole posting system.

Its complicated, and MLB doesn't want to deal with it

These eight picks look fairly certain:

1. Nationals: San Diego State righthander Stephen Strasburg.
2. Mariners: North Carolina first baseman Dustin Ackley.
3. Padres: Georgia HS outfielder Donavan Tate.
4. Pirates: Boston College catcher Tony Sanchez.
5. Orioles: California HS righthander Matt Hobgood.
6. Giants: Georgia HS righthander Zack Wheeler.
7. Braves: Vanderbilt lefthander Mike Minor.
8. Reds: North Carolina righhander Alex White.

The Tigers are deciding whether to spend big (California HS lefthander Tyler Matzek, Missouri HS righty Jacob Turner), smaller (Texas HS righty Shelby Miller) or a little smaller (Arizona State RHP Mike Leake). Stay tuned.

I still dont buy the Tate thing.

There's talk of it but it's pretty complicated I'd guess.

It really wouldn't be that complicated. Just pick a bonus threshold, say $150K, and prohibit giving any contract above that figure to a nondrafted player. Then let foreign players register with MLB if they are eligible and interested in being drafted.
We now know that Amaro really is running the Phillies. He and Monty seem to have ignored the committee.

Starts in 20 mins. I am excited to see how MLB TV covers this thing.

Probably awfully, assuming John Hart and HR will be on. At least ESPN had Callis, Manuel, and Law on the past few years. Praying MLB Network will have them.

From Goldstein

Kevin Goldstein (2:43:32 PM PT): Bryan,

There's a lot of talk about what is going on. Like I wrote in my mock intro, EVERY high school player is asking for a ton of money in what almost looks like a concentrated effort in reaction to the lower slots. That said, I've talked to a number of teams that are generally considered toe-the-line types who are now joining the anti-slot brigade as well.

That's simple for you and me. And it's a fine plan. It gets complicated when the commissioner and the owners and the player's union and everyone else gets involved.

Seriously, who scheduled this for 6:00 on a Tuesday? If you're gonna do it, do it on Monday when most teams have an off-day so the fans can actually enjoy it. Or, start it at 4 ET.

The conference call was much more enjoyable.

I miss hearing Lasorda struggle with names like Miller and Smith.
