He could be, but I'm not buying it at least until there's more data. I could definitely be wrong about that. I just don't see a +25 jump from one year to the next as not being fluky.

for the record, fangraphs uzr tables show utley about the same in 07 and 08.
rollins got about 10 runs better. feliz about 20 runs worse.
looks to me like the consistent message is that the feliz fielding slump about balanced the middle infield surge.

Today's WSJ has a nice piece handicapping the odds that citibank's naming rights deal with That Team goes south.

I'd post a link but haven't mastered that stunt via phone
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

Seems strange to think that in a few years the Phillies will have the 2nd oldest ballpark in the division.

I read Living On the Black , Feinstein's book about the 2007 seasons of Glavine and Mussina a while ago. Well, I didn't actually read it, I looked in the index for every mention of the Phillies and just read those parts. Believe me, it makes for a much more entertaining read that way, especially when you get to the end and the Marlins are shown as being so ticked off by the Mets showboating that they come out and beat Glavine's brains in in the last game of the season. I don't really care and don't want to know if it's true or not; it's just to much too think of karma bitch-slapping the Mets that way.

I'm really torn today thinking about the Met. On the one hand, it would be joyous for them to go something like 30-132. But it would be a lot of fun to watch yet another late season collapse as the Phils grab the NL East. It would be great if this rivalry continues to intensify.

I am not sure that it can intensify much more without a river of lava opening up somewhere in North Jersey to separate the two. I truly think that most of the player truly do dislike each others franchise, and sometimes the players themselves. I think the the Phils are one add short of putting an enforcer on the roster for brawls with the Mets. Then again this could just be a big act like 'sport-entertainment'.

I live in northern NJ and I make it a point not to wear a Phillies hat or other gear into a place that prepares food. I'm serious. I've been called some terrible things.

But doesn't that make you feel good?

I have two brother in laws, one is a Mets fan, the other a Yankees fan. I'm not sure what he's going to say when I visit next summer wearing all my WFC gear. And I'm going to be sure to do that. I hope the Mets are in last place by then.

Won't the Yankee fan just laugh at the Mets fan when you show up with that on?

Yeah, being called "[sissy] [asshole]" makes me feel good, but pubes in my scrambled eggs? Not so much.

Naw, they're both really good guys. I'm the asshole of the bunch. Anyway, Yankee fans pretty much ignore the Mets. Mets fans of course hate the Yankees.

It really looks like the Mets are going to lose the Citifield sponsorship.

I shall regret not being able to refer almost nightly to "[Poop]y Field," but we all have to make sacrifices.

So is this an acknowledgement that stadium naming is not generally a sound investment and is more a vanity measure?

Have they hit up Ralph Lauren, in an attempt to name the stadium Polo Grounds? At least that'd be somewhat historically relevant...

What about Ebbets Field? I think it's modeled after it from the outside anyway

You wonder how Metropolitan Life could have turned down the association.

My own preference would be to name the field after Daryl Strawberry, in perpetuity.
