Phillies emerge on Ibanez

Phillies emerge on Ibanez

Postby FTN » Tue Dec 09, 2008 14:52:33

For reasons I can't comprehend.

Posted by Jayson Stark

The Phillies, Mets and Cubs appear to have separated themselves from the pack of teams pursuing outfielder Raul Ibanez. Ibanez also is on the radar screen of the Braves and Angels. But the Braves have their pursuit of all their outfield options on hold until they find out whether they can sign pitcher A.J. Burnett. And the Angels would pursue Ibanez only if they fail to land their primary offensive target, Mark Teixeira.

Which we would have had plenty of had arbitration been offered to our old old left fielder.

you sure do seem to have a lot of time on your hands to be on this forum? Do you have a job? Are you a shut-in?

Get back in the pack Rubes. Stay with the peloton. Signing 34 year old Ibanez and forfeiting your first round pick is something they would do at Cal-Berkeley.

Can someone take a shot at explaining their logic behind a move like that?

the only plausible explanation is that they're hardballing Burrell. they want him back, but not for what he wants.

Rubes doesn't want Burrell back. Rube's wife/GF/whatever probably inadvertantly mentioned a couple of years ago that she thought Pat was dreamy (or something like that).

Would you settle for a Fender Squier run through an Ebay-ed amp?

In fairness, Rubes seems like he is lining up a whole handful of bitchable transactions and if they all go down close to simultaneously, we may be deprived of our opportunity to bitch about each one in a full and complete manner. Accordingly, I'm doing a little pre-finalization bitching to lay the groundwork for justice.

My friend's sisters boyfriend knew a guy that took a clubhouse tour in Seattle and said Raul was a good guy. So I am guessing this is a clubhouse chemistry move.

When all is said and done, we'll probably just end up with a "First Act" or whatever it is they sell at Wal-Mart... and overspent for it.

Ironically, "good clubhouse guy" and "good ballplayer" are not mutually exclusive traits. Has Rube gotten the memo?
