My friend's sisters boyfriend knew a guy that took a clubhouse tour in Seattle and said Raul was a good guy. So I am guessing this is a clubhouse chemistry move.

He does seem gritty. A real winner if you ask me...aside from only being to the playoffs once.

There's something to be said for finishing 3rd with class and dignity.

Ironically, "good clubhouse guy" and "good ballplayer" are not mutually exclusive traits. Has Rube gotten the memo?

Ibanez is a good player (or at least a good hitter). Eight straight years of OPS+ over 103, with the last 3 years being over 120. That's not the issue. The problem is he's LH and costs a draft pick.

Didn't mean to imply he wasn't. Another issue is age and the length of contract most likely required.

Ibanez is a good player, but if we signed him it would likely be a net downgrade for the team as a whole. Old player hitting the perfect age for a sharp decline in production, makes us worse against lefties, costs us a first round pick.

Ibanez is also a terrible fielder, negating much of his offensive value.

Crap, I can't confirm this story, apparently the guy that took the tour got hit by a train and I just found out my friend's sister dumped the boyfriend because he was a pathological liar. Sorry guys, but I can't confirm he is even a good clubhouse addition.

ESPN's Jayson Stark says the Phillies will not tread water to see if they get DeRosa from the Cubs. A friend of Ibanez told Stark the Phils are his first choice, so there seems to be mutual interest. The problem: the Cubs want Ibanez too and may not be willing to move DeRosa until they get their outfielder.

Ibanez would be a mistake. He's old, bats lefthanded, is slow and can't field worth a damn like Burrell. Rube is going to look stupid this offseason.

While I still believe it'll be Jenks because he's already in house... for some reason I can also envision them acquiring both Ibanez and DeRosa as a L/R LF platoon (DeRosa at 2B until Utley returns), which would mean LF costing around 16-17 mil next year. I know, that kind of logic boggles the mind (which might be why I can envision that scenerio).

So, with that plan, they'd rather go with DeBanez in left for Pat Burrell money, and lose a first rounder and Jason Donald?

I'm sure Ruben Amaro, Stanford grad and executive with the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies, has a master plan, and that it's sure to succeed.

After all, he studied under Pat Gillick, who guided this squad to a World Series victory.

Let's not bicker over potential transactions; let's wait until the other shoe drops before passing judgment.

MLB teams have access to all sorts of information that we, the public, can't get, and I'm sure a young, progressive executive like Amaro uses it to its fullest value.

Besides, he understands the new economy of baseball, and is simply executing in that world, long before his bumbling comrades can even see it.
