Kyle Lohse, Pt. II

So, sometime late march, he'll sign somewhere like St. Louis for 4 million.

Speaking of Lohse, could he be a free agent target for the Phils this year? How much is he asking for this time? I'd take a flyer on him if you could get him for say 5 million.

pretty sure lohse signed a multi-year deal with the cards

Eskin on NBC10:

-- Someone will give Pat 4 years and the Phils won't do that.

-- Earlier this year, the Phils had a pre-Manny deal with the Dodgers for Howard that would've included Loney + prospects and the Dodgers backed out. :!:

Some baseball people believe that Zduriencik will lean toward Ned Yost, his former colleague with the Brewers. Yost, who helped restore the Brewers to legitimacy, would be a reasonable choice. But shouldn't the Mariners — and every other team, for that matter — be looking for the next Joe Maddon?

The Mariners' clubhouse is highly factionalized, and a Maddon type is necessary to bring the various cliques together. White Sox bench coach Joey Cora, who possesses the advantage of being bilingual, at least deserves a look.

The next Maddon is out there; the M's need to go find him.

From real Ken.

Maddon, Maddon, Maddon, yet no mention of him getting out coached by one Charlie Manuel.

kruker,

what you fail to realize is that the philadelphia phillies didn't WIN the 2008 world series, no no. it was the infallible tampa bay RAYS that LOST the 2008 world series. the sooner you grasp this fact, the easier this will become.

According to league sources, the Phillies have some interest in free agent infielder-outfielder Pete Orr, who batted .253 in 49 games for the Washington Nationals. It is believed that the Tigers are also in on Orr and that the Nats would like to bring him back as well . . . The Daily News report last week that Rudy Seanez, who was left off the postseason roster, plans to retire was incorrect. According to agent David Schwartz, Seanez intends to pitch again in 2009.

Orr has a career .261/.290/.333 line.

Do the Phillies need a new assistant to the head clubhouse janitor?

Did someone --- well, OK, Pat Gillick --- say this to Eskin just to fuck with him?

I'd still inquire about Milton Bradley if I were the Phillies.

He's likely to be underpriced. There's the injury history, yes, but... I thinik I'd take a flyer on him. They can't go into 2009 without a good righthanded bat in the lineup. It's got to be Ramirez, Burrell, or someone else. I nominate Bradley as "someone else" if they can't bring Pat back. I assume Manny is a non-starter for this team.

I have no idea if he is actually available, but if I was running the team, I'd have a conversation with the White Sox about Nick Swisher. He had a falling out with Ozzie Guillen this season, so they might be willing to move him after just one season with the Sox (a down season after they paid a decent price for him--Ryan Sweeney and Gio Gonzalez).

He's coming into his age 28 season, he's a switch hitter who can play 1B and all 3 OF spots. Signed through 2011 with a 2012 option year. He put up a 92 OPS+ this season, but in the previous two had OPS+'s of 125 and 127.

Again, no idea if he is available, but he did have a down season and issues with Ozzie, so perhaps Ken Williams would consider moving him.

I would rather the Phillies just stop dealing with the White Sox altogether.

Ditto. Williams has shown himself to be a dishonest trade partner.
