I know he has a fastball that gets up to 97, according to ESPN. And that makes me interested.

EDIT: OK, did some research. Right-handed, 22 years old,

Stats for the year: 56IP, 46 H. 56 K, 4 BB, 6 ER

I'm intrigued. No posting fee required, he's a free agent. Up to 12 teams have scouted him.

Yanks Abreu could land with Mets?

The Yankees will offer Bobby Abreu arbitration by Dec. 7 for two reasons. If he declines, they receive draft picks when he signs with another team. If Abreu accepts arbitration, he is considered a signed player. Abreu, who batted .296 with 20 homers and 100 RBIs this season when he was paid $16 million, is likely to draw interest from the Mets to play a corner outfield position. If Abreu leaves the Yankees they could go after Manny Ramirez to play right field, but he will be far more expensive (think four years and $80 million) than Abreu on a one-year deal. They also could use Xavier Nady in right. -- NY Post

well, i suppose an outfield of manram-damon-matsui isn't that much worse, defensively, than one of matsui-damon-abreu.

pretty horrible either way, though.

Oh. I'm replying to a Steagles post. Um. OK.

I'd like to see the Phillies pick up Willie Bloomquist as a pinch-runner, pinch-hitter-if-you-really-need-a-base-runner back-up outfielder. He'd probably be pretty cheap.

It'd be funny if Abreu ended up back in Houston.

Need a graemlin of Ed Wade saying "The goal here is to win a championship."

Scott Olsen to Rangers?

The Marlins are not done dealing. The Rangers and Indians are among the clubs that have inquired about lefty Scott Olsen. But the Rangers don't appear willing to part with young catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia (Royal Palm Beach) in a straight-up deal for Olsen, who is being "actively shopped," according to a source. The Rangers could have interest in closer Kevin Gregg as well, another source said, but that could depend on who they choose as their next pitching coach. Regardless, the two clubs should have plenty to talk about when the general managers' meetings open Monday in Dana Point, Calif. -- South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Mets free agent Oliver Perez wants more than $60 mil

Oliver Perez, represented by Scott Boras, reportedly will be seeking a four- or five-year deal worth $60 million or more. That's likely to be too rich for the Mets' blood, even with Perez's 10-7 record and 4.22 ERA in 194 innings this past season. -- NY Post

So, sometime late march, he'll sign somewhere like St. Louis for 4 million.

Speaking of Lohse, could he be a free agent target for the Phils this year? How much is he asking for this time? I'd take a flyer on him if you could get him for say 5 million.
