Game ON is located in The Walk at Caesars. There is a Chickie's and Pete's 15 minutes outside of AC.

Phillies in Five.

You have the phils winning a Moyer start? Ballzy.

Man, Game 4 is the game to which I have tickets. They'd better win, and I'm looking at you, fatty.

Also, here is the easiest prediction ever: this will be the least watched WS in history, just as the last Phillies WS appearance was at the time it happened in 1993.

I pretty much agree with all of those points. Problem is from ESPN's prospective at least -- and they do the bulk of regular season coverage -- that they don't have post-season baseball. So, they have little reason to care about post-season ratings. Hell, if they want to get back in the game of post-season baseball at some point, they'd actually benefit from doing stuff that lowers post-season ratings to make the package cheaper (in theory).

FOX in particular is stupid in how they cover the teams. They really need to promote the sport and all the teams more -- it would help both the regular season and post-season ratings in the long run, which you think would benefit them.

That said, a couple of things: (1) I think TBS did a better job of having a variety of teams during their Sun afternoon games, though that was partially because they picked after the ESPN Sun night game. (2) The MLB Network starts next season and will have some live games. I would think they'd plan to have more of a variety and general promotion of the league than emphasizing only certain teams. Right?

It is important to note in regards to Fox that they do provide lots of regional coverage through the regional fox sports networks. I have no idea what the relationship is between the regional fox sports networks and the Fox Network.

2 more (biased) picks for the Phils:

Ricky Bottalico in 6
Greg Luzinski in 7

Previous TV Ratings for the World Series

Thanks for that link.

It appears the only thing that brings guaranteed ratings is a series that goes 6 or 7 games. The ratings seem to go up in Game 2, down slightly in Game 3, and depending on the outcome of those games, gradually upward in the remaining games. The 1993 series was low compared to previous years, but since then, the only two Game 1s that had higher ratings were in 1995 and 1996. The overall viewers have risen since then, but the actual ratings have generally gone down.

Basically put, maybe the Dodgers would have drawn slightly better ratings than the Phils, but all you really need for success is a storyline. I don't think the Red Sox provide that as well as the Rays (worst to first, first WS for the franchise, young team, etc.) as the 2007 WS didn't outrank its contemporaries by much. The 2004 series obviously was a great success, but even that series was outdone by the 1999 series.

Boston's not as big a draw as everyone seems to think. New York is, and Atlanta was in the '90s, but other than that, there's no consistency in the "big market" theory.

Storylines. The Phils are in their first World Series in 15 years and the Rays are in their first ever. I think lots of people are going to watch. It'll certainly outdraw the 2006 WS, and it'll probably outdraw the 2005 and 2002 World Series.

Look at it this way: If this Series has low ratings, at least those who aren't die-hard fans like us will be spared Buck & McCarver (not to mention Jeannie Zelasko and Kevin Kennedy).

Not a bad article, but this was a little odd

No one eschews the sacrifice bunt more than Maddon. Manuel's team is among the foremost practitioners of it.

So, the NL leaders in HR are the foremost practitioners of sac bunting? I was curious if the Rays really don't bunt much, and I see that among non-pitchers they have 20 sacrifices. We have a whole 5 more.

Joe Kerrigan and Seth Everett were on CSN just now and both said they're highly concerned with the week-long layoff but the only reason why Tampa Bay is favored in Vegas is because they have home field advantage.

....and from the Eagles locker room today:

-- Lito says Phils in 5
-- J.R. Reed wore a BJ Upton jersey since he's from Tampa

Fox 29 has a Phillies countdown clock that randomly show ups during whatever might be showing on the channel.

WSJ damns with faint praise:

Wall St Journal wrote:Can Phillies Fans Embrace Optimism?

The hustling, spirited 2008 Phillies finished fourth in the National League in ERA, second in runs scored, and first in home runs. Starting pitcher Cole Hamels, closer Brad Lidge, slugging first baseman Ryan Howard, and flashy shortstop Jimmy Rollins (last year's NL Most Valuable Player) may be the nucleus of the best team in franchise history -- though skeptics will be quick to point out that this may not be saying very much....

...."I'm tired of hearing about 1980," Mr. Rollins has said. "We want our own parade!" So do we, Jimmy -- and, finally, we really do believe.

I just saw the Phillies warming up on Sportscenter. The WS patch on the hats is pretty great.
