Phillies vs Rays: World Series Discussion

Postby BigEd76 » Sun Oct 19, 2008 23:52:10

It's finally here. After a long 15-year wait, the Phils are back in the World Series, and their opponent, the young Tampa Bay Rays, are on a magical run. The Phils will try to win their second World Series in franchise history and end a very long 25-year drought among Philadelphia's pro teams. Will the full week off hurt them or help them? The Rays needed all 7 games of the ALCS to finally knock off the defending champions and their "Nation". This team is loaded with young talent and loves the home run. With Percival out, they're using a bullpen by committee, including journeymen in Dan Wheeler and Chad Bradford, plus the 2007 #1 overall pick David Price. The crappy dome stadium with its low ceiling and cowbell could be a factor. This isn't the matchup FOX wanted, but who cares. We're here and we're 4 wins away.

(All games on FOX)

Scheduled Starters: (Joe Buck / Tim McCarver)
WED 8:20PM at Tampa Bay = Hamels vs Kazmir
THU 8:20PM at Tampa Bay = Myers vs Shields
SAT 8:20PM at Philadelphia = Moyer vs Garza
SUN 8:20PM at Philadelphia = Blanton vs Sonnanstine
MON 8:20PM at Philadelphia = Hamels vs Kazmir

I wonder if they'll bring back Rays legends like Boggs and Vaughn and Canseco to throw out some first pitches

Kruk sounding like he will pick the Phillies.

they were a chick hanging out with her friends at a bar, the Phillies would be the 320 lb chick with a nose wart and a dick - Trent Steele

I think it helps a bit that the Rays won at home and are looking like they are celebrating hard. This is opposed to the Phils who even immediately after the NLCS win were talking about how they weren't done.
