Is it feasible to not announce it until Thursday? If so, if Hamels wins Game 1, I'd come back with Blanton Game Two and hold Myers back until Game 3.

Heard on the radio that the Flyers are looking into changing their gametime on Saturday the 25th from a night game to a day game, so as not to conflict with the World Series.

So Myers can hit at home? Or so he'd be in line for a game 7 start? Myers does pitch better at home and if he starts games 2 and 6, they'd both be on the road.

Damn Clint Hurdle for losing the all star game!

Yep -- I like him pitching at least once at home and also, potentially, if Cole can't, Game 7.

So something I was thinking about a good bit today...other than the (admittedly huge) exception of game four in LA, we really haven't hit at all against our opponent's bullpens.

The Brewers pen was supposed to be ass, but we didn't do anything against them except one Burrell solo shot. The Dodgers pen obviously is a good one, and other than that 8th inning, they shut us down, unless Rafael Furcal kicking the baseball counts as offense.

If Tampa does end up surviving, we are going to have to make like the Sox and feast on that pen. Not just in comebacks, but to tack on when we have leads. Kazmir doesn't go deep into games. Their other starters have been really tough. If their pen shuts us down, that would be not the best, but tonight sure makes that look like a possible weakness for that team.

For a little bit, we also only scored in one inning per game, but enough to win. The playoffs are funny that way. If luck stays on our side, we will win.

Can you reasonably expect to destroy your opponent's closer and setup guy more than once in five games?

Milwaukee
Game 1 - 4 IP, 0 ER
Game 2 - 4.1 IP, 0 ER
Game 3 - 3.2 IP, 0 ER
Game 4 - 6 IP, 1 ER

Series total - 18 IP, 1 ER = 0.50 ERA

Los Angeles
Game 1 - 2.2 IP, 0 ER
Game 2 - 5.2 IP, 0 ER
Game 3 - 3 IP, 0 ER
Game 4 - 4 IP, 5 ER
Game 5 - 6.1 IP, 0 ER

Series total - 21.2 IP, 5 ER = 2.08 ERA

I mean, that's pretty bad.

They've basically had an early big inning in most of the games and then hung on for dear life. Nice to see them scratch out a few Monday night, though, when they needed to.

jersey, I think I'd like to see our record vs a bullpen for vs the overal record of all postseason teams vs a bullpen before I said we definitevely bad.

I also think that any phillies fan who can compile that info 34 hours after the phils make the posteason for the first time in 15 years is some kind of inhuman calculating machine. The thought of even looking at numbers right now is like some narcoleptic impulsezsssssssssssssssssssssss\\\\\\\\d 0J jewO@a dfsa;jlmjda ;klk'a

I think we're probably pretty good in general against bullpens. You don't get all those come from behind wins by scoring 1.3 runs/9 against bullpens all year. I would imagine the small sample size/luck explanations are more applicable than us all of a sudden forgetting how to hit relief pitching. I'm just saying I hope it doesn't continue, and was reminded of this hope while watching last night's game.

It's a fair point, but the bullpens left aren't exactly the Mets. Tampa doesn't have that one unhittable Papelbon-type guy, but before last night they'd all been effective. (And I wonder if Maddon would do the balls-in-a-wheelbarrow move of making Price his closer for the rest of the way; he could be that unhittable guy.)

I found the lack of putaway against Milwaukee annoying, and it would have bothered me more against the Dodgers if, obviously, we hadn't shredded their best relief arms in the crucial Game Four. But on the whole, I'd rather slap around starters than relievers, especially since the Phils bullpen has been solid.
