This just seems like such a waste of time. If you really think you can win it this year by acquiring a legitimate #2 starter then do it and give up whatever prospects you have to (Marson included). But to tread water with this garbage is why the Phillies haven't won anything in 28 years.

I don't want Blanton if it requires giving up a real prospect (and I'd much rather have Burnett), but if he comes at the cost of a Golson, why wouldn't you want him?

The fallacy that the Phillies need a No. 2 is exactly that. The Phillies are 25-13 in games started by Moyer and Kendrick. Another pitcher who can pitch to an ERA in the low 4s is sufficient. The problem is that you can't have two guys in your rotation with ERAs hovering around 6 (12-24 in Myers/Eaton starts).

Blanton's numbers suck this year, but he could probably come here and be better than Kendrick or Moyer. He was solid up through the end of May and had some really bad starts over the last month. If Burnett and Bedard or unattainable and it doesn't cost you much...well, it's better than doing nothing.

really? if it were golson or drabek for blanton straight up, i'd be pretty tempted.

Totally agree.

Plus, he doesn't cost much at all, so the team still would have both money and players left to make a bigger deal whether it be for a bat or another arm.

Then again, depending on who the source is, our top prospects consist of only Carrasco and Cardenas. Prior to this year, Marson wasn't a household name, and guys like Donald were just fringe guys.
