I don't get why everyone thinks we are going to get fleeced. Garcia is the only trade I can think of where we could have possibly considered fleeced in terms of giving up our prospects. The Phillies are generally good about keeping the best of the prospects. Most deals when we trade our prospects they end up being busts or nothing special. A lot of people were upset once upon a time when we traded future stud Adam Eaton.

Jari Kurri, Dave Brown and Corey Foster traded to the Flyers for Scott Mellanby, Craig Fisher, and Craig Berube. Kurri to the Kings with Jeff Chychrun for Steve Duchesne, Steve Kasper and LA's 4th in 1991.

If that's all in recent years I think there isn't much to worry about. Floyd is a 4 or 5 at best somehow doing the miraculous. I'll take my chances on betting the Gio is never considered prime. It was still a horrible trade but things could be a heck of a lot worse in terms of the prospects the Phillies have traded. Most of the HUGE prospects have ended up playing ball in Philly in recent years. I am not that concerned that the Phillies are going to be sending a future all star in a trade for Joe Blanton.

It's billy beane. He hasn't just seen and talked to all our minor league players, he's projected them for three years as A's and determined what value in future prospects they'd bring in any trade and ranked them accordingly. This is beyond fleecing. New zealand sheep farmers dream of what he's about to do. Billy Beane is to our farm system like whales are to plankton.

Did you guys know Billy Beane wrote a book called Moneyball? It has some fascinating things contained within its pages.

Billy Beane is good but he isn't God and he has made some dumb trades. If he trades Blanton I think he will be doing it to get some value for a mediocre pitcher, not to be fleecing anyone.

I don't know what scares me more, giving up way too much for Joe Blanton or having Joe Blanton in the rotation.

Unfortunately you may not have to choose.
