How does the New York Daily News not know by now that he's 42?

he's 38 according to MLB, but The Smoking Gun published documents in 1999 that said he was born in 1965. ESPN.com and baseball-reference.com have him born in '65.

Hoffman:
"The other team gives you inspiration - let's put it that way," Rollins said. "And when you're able to take that and keep yourself motivated, it helps."

That is where Rollins left it. None of the handful of reporters remaining in the Phillies' clubhouse had seen what Rollins was talking about, leaving us more clueless than usual. It was late and there would be no further explanation.

"See you today," Rollins said, walking toward the night/morning.

The details came out yesterday afternoon.

"It was Tatis," said somebody in the dugout who witnessed the whole thing. What he was talking about was the ostentatious little slide-shuffling dance that the Mets' Fernando Tatis unfurled as he crossed home plate after clubbing a three-run homer in the third inning.

"Yeah, that's what it was," the guy in the dugout said. "But there wasn't a real big deal made out of it. Well, I take that back - one of the coaches was yelling. It wasn't that big of a deal for everybody else.

"But people did notice," he said.

Jerry Manuel shed a little more light on Friday's bullpen unavailabilities. In addition to Aaron Heilman (60 pitches Tuesday) and Scott Schoeneweis' back issue, Duaner Sanchez also apparently tweaked a knee in Philadelphia. Luis Ayala's injury is actually groin-related. He tweaked it on his first pitch Friday.

Random stuff:

September 3, 2007: The Mets and Pedro Martinez beat the Reds 10-4 for their fourth consecutive win. The following day they would win their fifth consecutive game and go on to put together a streak of 10 out of 12 that ended September 12, at which point they were 21 games over .500. At that point they were 7 games ahead of the Phils.

Similarly to this year the Mets only played the Phillies 3 times in September 2007, all at Shea, and of course they lost all 3 (9/14-9/16).

The Mets finished up 2007 against the dreck of the NL east, playing the Nats and Fish 13 out of 14 games. They went 5-9 during this stretch. The 2008 Mets continue this trend of playing well against good teams and down to the level of not so good teams, which is great since they only play 4 tough games the rest of the way (Cubs at Shea 9/22-9/25).

Unconfirmed but it looks like the Mets will have the following for interleague in 2009:

HOME = Yankees, Rays, Blue Jays
AWAY = Yankees, Orioles, Red Sox

This time last year (season-wise, not date-wise), the Phils had just swept the Mets at Shea to move 3.5 back and were headed to St. Louis and Washington.

I remember this game and wanted to do severe damage

The Phils went 8-4 in their final 12
The Mets went 5-9 in their final 14
