Are you certain of that, or is that an estimation.

Unless someone is hurt, their top 4 clearly is Gil Meche, Brian Bannister, Jorge DeLaRosa and Zach Greinke. Then, along with Bale, they also have Kyle Davies, Brett Tomko and Luke Hochevar to compete for the 5th spot in the rotation.

Looking at that, I can't see why they would have need for Chad Durbin, so so much for that idea. But whether its Peralta, Hale, Musser or someone else, it does look like KC has at least one extra arm who might be useful to a team like the Phillies.

Looking at Peralta's overall numbers, he might be a very nice acquisition for someone. Musser's secondary numbers, however, are not impressive - high hits per inning and WHIP.

I don't know what numbers you're looking at. Musser was moved to the bullpen in 3A last year and put up great numbers. 50 IP, 31 H, 1.98 BB/9, 7.82 K/9 and only 1 HR allowed. He's young and has a mid 90's fastball from the left side. Righties had a .363 OPS against him last year.

Probably looking at Musser's career numbers. He's not that young at 27 this year but he isn't old or anything.

The move to the bullpen looks to be a smart one. He did get smacked around in 24 big league innings though.

A 4.38 ERA is hardly getting "whacked around" considering it was his first taste of the bigs. The peripherals weren't great, but he pitched out of trouble effectively.

He was miscast as a starter. His raw stuff has always been better than his numbers, but he's able to work at 92-94 in relief, instead of 87-90 as a starter. It makes all the difference.

I'm talking his major league numbers from last year.

But his PERA was 8.36 so he was not really all that effective it seems. He is much better off as a reliever as I said. This, of course is a small sample size. But he has had very high WHIPs as a starter so he needs every bit of his reliever edge I think.

It looks like he gets righties out pretty well so he's probably not a LOOGY.

-- Randarino says the roster is down to 31 because Benson and Smith will also start the season on the DL. He also says Benson will not opt out of his deal before Tuesday.

-- The Reading Eagle says Carrasco, Outman, Carpenter, Golson, Donald, Marson and Harman will all start the season in Reading.

-- I'm not sure how up-to-date it is, but the Lehigh Valley roster page on MiLB.com has the following:

Pitchers = Benson, Happ, Bisenius, Youman, Segovia, Jason Anderson, Childers, Cruz, Knotts, Swindle, Kris Wilson

Catchers = Jaramillo, LaForest

Infielders = Dawkins, Harman (who might be in Reading instead), Hammond, King, Neil Sellers

Outfielders = Bohn, Moran, Watson, Luke Appert

I was at an intrasquad game on Sunday morning, and Moran was playing for Reading. Sellers was also playing for Reading, as was Slayden. Jason Kershner finished the game for AAA, so it appears he could be a 'Pig.
Fine. You wanna act like you're two? I'll act like I'm one.

The Writer just read the latest Work Group listing down at the complex. I note that there are 25 players listed while the roster limit is 24. Also, it doesn't include any of Olmedo, Durbin 1, Durbin 2, Blackley, Condrey, Knotts, Darensburg, Snelling who the Phillies might successfully navigate to their AAA roster.

I think he has be offered back to the Giants if he clears waivers. If he is claimed, he goes to the claiming team which also must comply with Rule V draft rules.

Right.

And if someone claims him, we do not receive the $25K back that we would if his original team were to take him back.

$100K spent on Rule 5 guys this year. $100,000 that could have been applied to the draft budget. $100,000 that could have been applied to the Latin American signings budget.

Great business.
