Crasnick:
If Jenkins makes a total of 925 plate appearances in the 2008-2009 seasons or 525 plate appearances in 2009, it would trigger a $7.5 million vesting option for 2010. If the agreement fails to vest, he and the Phillies have a mutual option for the third year.

In my life, I've never met a Geoff (other than Geary).

Can't we sign a Jeff?

Peh.

One of my cousins actually spells his name Geoff; only one I know though.

I remember the first time I saw it was when I first heard of Queensryche and Geoff Tate. I remember thinking it was an odd way of spelling it. The other one that comes to mind is Geoffrey Rush.

I don't if this is before your time but Geoff Zahn was a pretty good starting pitcher for the Twins and Angels.

Seriously, I was Conlin was on. THAT'S how bad this guy is.
They have Marcus Hayes, Dana (whatever her last name is), and the horse racing guy to talk about this. Why don't they just bring in Stephen A.?

Will his power stay level or drop off? His WARP the last 3 seasons; 5.0, 5.3, 4.1. Is he better than the options available? Probably most of them. But I don't know if he's a 10M+ a year player, largely because he's a defensive liability.

This is going to be a part of another entry on TGP, but defensive play means less in the CBP than in most stadiums. CBP can mask deficiencies because of the small outfield and prevelance to the homerun.

I know Bill James (via Dewan I think) had him ranked as the worst LF in baseball, non-Manny division. Which, I guess, makes me think he would be really really bad in another park.
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

It would be great to sign him for an extension, but I'd hope that any figure they arrived on would take this into account so that he could be traded at some point as a decent value DH to the AL. But that might be harder to do in the current climate of cash rich mlb.

They were complaining that the Phils sign these average players all the time but never go after the one player that will make them World Series contenders...

Who exactly is that one player?

Is Babe Ruth available or something?

Freddy Garcia was hyped to be that guy last year.

reality check time. your number of 25 is not realistic for a guy that actually gets the 400ish plate appearances that we seem to be counting on. i think it is generally acknowledged that platoons of loften-michaels in 2005 and of inky-eisy-chamberlin-thompson in 1993 were about as good as it gets.
loften had 48-358 pas vs lh and rh
thompson 65-322
eisenreich 58-304

the ratios just don't get much better than that for guys who see regular action in the field. if you want to hold jenkins under 25 pa's versus lefties, you want him well under 300 pa's in total.

you simply can't pull the lefty hitter every time a lefty pitcher comes in.
the only way to keep the appearences versus lefties low is to restrict jenkins mostly to pinch-hitting.
