think of the lesser lights (& their managers) who are looking at clemens' model for longevity and crafting their own plans for interminable protraction of, in their cases, mediocrity. (I'm not sure how baseball historians will look at Clemens' shenanigans - 'modern' deployment of extraordinary talent; crass egotism; Ali-esque sports capitalism at its finest; some mixture of these?)

Myers, for example, may be shaping a less-talented, less-imaginative, and lower-probability variant - "why be a starter when I can pitch sparsely as a "relief specialist" til I'm getting mail from AARP, at the same dough?"
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

It would have been had he announced he was going to pitch for the Sox and then proceeded to diss the crowd and NYC.
Yes son. I'm the best mono-thingy guy there ever was.

Updating a previous item, ESPN.com reports New York Yankees SP Roger Clemens has agreed to a minor league contract. He will most likely join the Yankees after spending several weeks getting into shape. His contract will be a pro-rated salary of $28 million. He will make about $4.5 million per month for June, July, August and September.

Wonder how much this really costs the Yankees given that there are luxury tax and revenue sharing implications. I'd guess closer to 7M a month.

They should have traded him in the offseason... hindsight's 20/20

dave wright goes 1/18 in four games at arizona. this would normally make me quite happy, but then i remember that ryan howard looks like he's never even seen a baseball bat every time he's holding one and i get sad.

The Mets finally decided to lose... 3-1 loss to the 'Backs... the Marlins lost and the Braves won. We can at least win a game today where every team in the NL East didn't win.
