Probably because they share a hatred of the Yankees with his beloved Red Sox.

Buster Olney picked the Mets to be in the World Series cause they have the best offense...hmm.

Just watched Field of Dreams. Time for some baseball.

That goes against what he said on ESPN.com, where he has the Phillies in the World Series...

cards waste a leadoff triple on a failed suicide squeeze. someone check larussa's blood-alcohol level.

In fairness, maybe he's just insane. Since the Phillies were the best offense, not the Mets.

I think Miller is at least semi-fluent in Spanish and generally uses the latin pronunciation for latin players.

Yep. Plays like that illustrate what is often forgetting by those who want to promote "small ball" and the like. Instead of a situation where most any contact gets you a run, the Cards played themselves out of it by being cute, trying the squeeze and ending up with a pitcher at 1B rather than a speedy runner at 3B.

With the pitcher up, it definitely does make a difference.

That doesn't really make sense to me at all. With no outs, even if Carpenter fails to get the run home, you still have one chance to get the run in without a hit and two chances for a hit. With one out, if Carpenter doesn't get him in, you are left hoping for a hit (or a wild pitch or balk). I don't really like the squeeze but there was no more sensible time to call for it then now.
