We've had a CX 5 for about a year, and we love it. (We went with the "Touring" model, which has a bigger engine if I'm not mistaken, and I think that makes the car much better.) I hear you about Mazda dealers though. We have a great one though in Shreveport we like, though that's probably not very convenient for you. However, years ago, I bought a Mazda at the Flemington dealer and I had a very positive experience there--might be worth a drive if you really love the car.

no, i haven't. just spent 6 clams on the CR-V (replaced rear U-joint, and the alternator went flaky a couple days before I was taking it in for the other thing     )

I have, however, been looking. MPG is key for me. Short list is now Honda HRV & Kia Niro for new, and Mercury Mariner Hybrid/Ford Escape Hybrid for used. Hopefully now that this vibration problem is fixed (/PiP) I'll get the final six months I need out of the CR-V so I have a little bit of a runway. (Shhh, dont' wanna say that too loud lest my timing belt hear me)

Here is a twist. I called VW today as they let me know that I was paid off. Because of the way it falls, they kept collecting money for payment, so I returned the car 1/20 and will get $1300 back mid-march. That is shitty.

why are you guys turning in your VW's? just curious.

I'll most likely get the fix and collect some cash. I'm guessing a fix is not likely and just go about my merry way like nothing ever happened. Nothing really in class for my golf TDI when it come to size/hp and driveability.

OK I have a billion dollar idea. It's a secret. so if you read what's below I'll have to kill you.

A fully electric car with a small gas tank and generator that can kick in to charge the batteries so you don't get stuck on the side of the road.

You weren't baiting us? I was sure it was some gambit. Anyway, the Malibu Hybrid is nicer then I expected. A lot of plastic, which is a shame because just a tweak here and there would have made the interior a lot nicer. It is a learning curve with hybrid breaks however.

My Passat had a tad bit of turbo lag and in some scenarios I put it in manual as its shift decisions were slow, but I sent mine on its merry way because of the broken promise that it was a reasonable driving vehicle getting great mileage that was also good for the environment. Clearly there are environmental problems, and post fix I expected that the mileage and HP would suffer greatly. So it becomes a dog that handles pretty well and looks nice. Mostly it was a feeling of being betrayed making it my 3rd and the last VW I expect to ever own ('79 Rabbit was my first very used car, then a '99 Passat, ending with a 2013 Passat).

I have an older Escape hybrid (10 years old) and that car is a trooper. Been through multiple accidents, regularly lugs three knuckleheaded boys, and still keeps chugging and still gets p good MPG. Rides rough, interior is srting to fall apart, and is fairly utilitarian but my experience with it makes me want to go back to ford when we are ready to move on.

Hmmm wiki says they discontinued in earlier 2012. I’ve yet to see a 2012 model year escape hybrid though.

I love my 2011 Prius.

I had a 2010 Prius that we got through the "Cash for Clunkers" program when Obama first took office (traded in a '99 Jeep Cherokee). The 2010 got totaled in an accident 2 summers ago and we got the '11.

I think that if I won the lottery and money was not a factor, I would still get a Prius (although I would get a new one with all the bells and whistles instead of the basic version I have).

Seems like I can do better on a Mariner Hybrid than an Escape Hybrid, even though the former is the "luxury" appointed version of basically the same car. I wonder why that is- just name recognition? That the Escape is still being produced and the Mariner was done after 2011?

Smitty, looking at one in Olympia. Wanna go for a surrogate test drive??? :)
