My 14 year old Passat finally got to $ in repairs to justify keeping. Bought a new Passat TDI and have been getting over 42 mpg average. Two weeks between 3/4 tank fill ups (north of 600 miles between fills). If you do highway driving, this is a nice package. Even in stop and go getting between 36 and 39 average.

I want a vw tdi so bad but my car hasn't hit the maintenance fees to justify a car payment again.

I do 80m a day so the mpg would be nice

My truck is still puttering along with its check engine light glowing and a fan that only works on the highest setting. Will probably get that second thing fixed before winter, but I checked the engine and it's still there.

we've been driving a 2000 saturn for 6 years. we have 58,000 miles on it. the only problem is a busted horn. we were really close to car shopping a few months ago, but we have a car with no payments and under 60k miles on it and live in a city. we changed our minds recently

speaking of busted horns, Bucky, do you remember when i asked about a mechanic on Green Lane, you knew his son I think, and you said he was trustworthy. Do you remember who I'm talking about? I think I'm going to him next. I have a great mechanic, but he's in Abington and I don't always feel like devoting a day to something like this

45 mpg on my current tank in the Prius. Entirely suburban driving, no highways, back and forth to work.

Stinkbugs in the flywheel. Or flybugs in the stinkwheel.

My guess... probably an O2 sensor or mass air sensor. I think stores like Advance Auto will check the code with an OBC reader for free.

I had them check it when it popped on last year. #1 answer on the board was loose gas cap.

I wanted to go hybrid, Ford Fusion was the primary target, but the dealers are in a 'they sell them selves' mode and add to the MSSRP. I could not go mid-30's for a Ford with a MSPR of 27K. I needed more crew compartment then the the Prius offered.I can hit 50 MPG in highway situations.

When I jump on the accelerator the TDI bites into the asphault impressively.

Have you considered haggling with the Ford dealer?

Sure. I came in with a price backed up by KBB and Enmonds. The response from the largest Ford Dealer ni the Mid-Atlantic was that there are no insentives on hybrid vehicles and that they cannot keep them in stock. So the "back room manager" started at 27K, added the taxes, tags and delivery fee to the MSRP then piled on about $6K. He told us that our offer was not realiistic and that this was the counter. It was over $36K out the door. He also told me the trade in, which I had low expectatins for but knew the value, needed a new engine and they would not accept it. So we reiterated our position, that we know that they had atleast 27 of these vehicles in stock from thier website and that our offer was firm before tax, tag, etc. The reply, no way he could do anything close to that and we were talking about a car with a value of $36K (he was holding the sticker in his hand so he knew better) and then he tried to make a value over price arguement. I left about 20 minutes later then I should have.

VW dealer OTOH compared and contrasted choices then worked to get to a price that made sense through a mix of 0%, matched down payment and an acceptable price which came in less the the Ford sticker price for substantially more vehicle.

That's the default suggestion for an EVAP emissions code since the gas cap is the easiest thing to try first. More likely it something like a loose/disconnected/leaking vacuum hose.

O2 sensor caused my check engine light. Gas mileage was bad until I got it fixed. Loose gas cap is always the first culprit.

Those TDIs sound pretty great. I really like the Jetta SportWagen. Really wish Subaru would make their turbo diesels available in the US.

So as I mentioned way earlier in this thread I got a used Subaru (an '06 Impreza) because I wanted something I wouldn't have to take care of or really care much about bc I drive into center city every day. Have to say, not too stoked on it. Lots of little annoyances and bills over the last few years like some corroded engine bolts and my two separate key remotes breaking at the same time. Think I'll prob go a different brand shortly. The dumb part of me wants an Audi while the practical side says a Honda.
