But I really like knowing where I am, and I'm now accustomed to just looking to see what street the intersection ahead is. I also find myself on the road looking for a quick bite to eat or gas, and it's really convenient to press 'where to-->foot and dining-->fast food' and then see what's close. Ask me the last time of done that and I'll tell you "today". I also use it to track my gas mileage (at least for the past 5 years) and will definitely look for that feature in a new unit. Obviously that requires 'always on'.

The google maps app does all of that and also can track your location history if you want that. Just get a cell phone mount for your dashboard. If you already have a Garmin mount, you can get an adapter for the ball to your phone holder (mountguys.com sells such a thing).

s GPS-level accuracy really needed for these applications? We believe it is not. iTraq allows enough precision to let you know if your child is in school or on a football field, or if your car is at home or in the parking lot. iTraq does not use GPS, but it does use a technology that scans cellular towers that are in proximity to determine its location. The more towers it sees, the more precisely iTraq can determine its location.
