TMBG thread

Postby 1 » Mon Oct 15, 2007 10:56:42

It looks like there are a bunch of fans on this board. I am shocked SHOCKED that an internet message board, especially one about baseball, would have so many TMBG fans.

Is anyone heading to the show at the Fillmore East at the TLA on South Street Presented By Miller Lite: "Always Worth It" on Black Friday? Most of my friends (& especially my wife) can't stand TMBG, so I may be hitting this one solo.

OMG WHO'S YOUR FAVORITE JOHN??

WHO'S YOUR FAVORITE DAN?1??????

DRUM MACHINE OR LIVE DRUMZZ???

FLOOD OR LINCOLN?
Fine. You wanna act like you're two? I'll act like I'm one.

TMBG lost me after Flood, but I love their kids music (as in, it's great to have kids music that isn't completely awful). Can't see the point in seeming them live either way.

When I lived in NH, they used to put on free shows in Boston each year. I got the chance to go see them a few times. Fun shows.

Oh, Vox, you don't know how worried about you that makes me. Unless having fun is pointless.

That said, it's been a long time since I've seen a show, and I'm not sure I'll be able to shuck off the accretions of family life to do so this time. However, 1 now has me motivated, and my daughter is a big fan of Flood, so I maybe I can pawn this off as a father/daughter bonding thing.

PS Vox-What do you think of Trout Fishing in America-they helped me get through the late pre-school early primary years with some good tunes. I still like to sing Pico de Gallo" even if my kids don't.

Thanks-hadn't even thought what the FEATTLAOSSPBML age policy was, given the bar there. She makes the cut-off. 14+ sounds like it's just an all-cursing show.

The last shows I saw were Fantomas and Monster Magnet circa 2003 (I can't remember which was last, they were within a few month of each other - at the Troc), and I just felt really old. Still, growing up and being into "punk" (for lack of a better term), I've always considered going to see a show as an activity - moshing and whatnot - so for a band like TMBG - what do you do, just stand there and smile? Snap fingers?

All I know about Trout Fishing in America is that there were these two really creepy adults I used to work with who were the're biggest fans, and went to all of their shows. That's not TFiA's fault, but I'm pretty skeeved.

We'll have to check them out for the kids, though.

I can remember having the same mind blank a few years ago.

In answer to your lesser half, I guess I can see why there wouldn't be an appeal if that's what your expectation of a concert is.

But a TMBG show is hardly a passive experience. Besides the audience participation that they always include, there's a lot singing along, a lot of jokes and interplay with the audience and, in general, a lot more than just sitting back and listening to a group play a jukebox of its greatest hits.

And it's one of the few concerts where even I won't feel old.

We had to do a conga line during "No One Knows My Plan" at UD about 10 years ago. It was approximately 105 degrees in the room. No one cared.
