"Everyday" star sightings

Postby Richard Thon » Tue Jan 09, 2007 21:45:56

Speaking of stoned uncles, I have an uncle (who happens to now be a Rabbi) who in his younger days ( the 60s) used to get high with Bob Dylan when he came to Philadelphia, via a common friend.

Fine. You wanna act like you're two? I'll act like I'm one.

That reminds me of something. My girlfriend's roommate is good friends with this guy from Australia who is Cal Penn's (Kumar's) personal assistant. The four of us are all drinking at Northstar when he swears on his grave that he was with Cal at a big party at a club in New Zealand where they filming something or other, and that Peter Fonda, Easy Rider himself, was in a side booth with a bunch of young women and a large pile of cocaine on the table, when all of a sudden....

Fonda stands up, lowers his pants, leaves a steaming pile next to the coke, says to the girls, "Take your pick," then fixes himself and leaves the club.

I stopped reading after you wrote this. Nothing will make me laugh more than this sentence.

This reminds me of one. Some friends and I saw Larry Johnson in a bar in Las Vegas, a few months after his rookie year. We all did a shot (our treat) and were bs-ing about Penn State. Out of nowhere, for some reason I go, "Yo man, Priest Holmes is a p**sy."

He just glared at me. But then he just nodded and said, "Gimme 2 years."

No idea what the hell I was thinking.

My friend saw him out at a PSU bar last year and flashed him the Dynasty symbol. He laughed and returned the favor. Holla

He seems very amenable to drunks. Gotta respect that.

Oh yeah, and George Brett accidentally walked in to a wedding I was in in Kansas City; he was looking for some kind of benefit he was supposed to be attending, but stayed for a couple handshakes.

Must be a PSU RB thing. I drank shots of Jager with Curtis Enis once in college. Man, I really do curse the celebs I come in contact with.

I used to have a few of these; not so much any more so these guys go back a ways as celebrities. Mario Andretti in the lobby of an LA hotel. I was surprised how short he is. Godfrey Cambridge in a restaurant. Gene Shalit on a NYC street. Gene Rayburn in Logan airport. Al Franken on a NYC street. Jeffrey Lyons on a flight. Ed McMahon in an LA jazz club. There are probably some others I'm forgetting. The weirdest by far was waiting to get on a flight in KC and spotting Art Linkletter (of Kids Say the Darndest Things fame) sitting by himself in the departure lounge, calming thumbing through a stack of men's magazines (Hustler, Penthouse, etc.).

In '78 I was living on the west coast and after being in Philly on business, I was taking a flight to LA and was waiting in the departure lounge when I saw a guy standing nearby who I thought looked a lot like Paul Owens. I didn't give it much thought until I spotted a dead ringer for Danny Ozark. As it turned out the entire team was on the same flight on their way to series against the Dodgers. Rawly Eastwick's wife was as close to a 10 as I will ever see in this life.

My wife has had two more recent celeb bathroom encounters. The first was Maria Osmond in Lancaster. A couple of years later she was using the single person restroom in a Manayunk restaurant and my daughter got to watch Amanda Peet try the locked door and get to fidgit while waiting her turn.

Could have sworn I saw Pat Burrell a couple weeks ago in the Springfield Outback at the bar with a lady friend. Closer inspection proved me wrong however. The barkeep did say Jon Lieber once ate there.
