I think I agree with The Dude: it's possible to be right and insufferable at the same time (why, I believe that I myself - shocking I know - may occasionally be guilty of this very phenomenon), and atheism is dumb if what one means by atheism is a sort of activist, organized atheism. The Christopher Hitchens / Richard Dawkins sort I mean. It's just not necessary to spend all of one's energy berating people who won't listen anyway about why their cherished beliefs and family cultures are without rational basis. Neither is my Phillies Fandom. Who cares. Karl Marx made the mistake of firing so many of his shots - needlessly - at religion, and Communist governments, following him, repeated the mistake and helped build in a deep well of emotional resistance to themselves.

But I disagree that atheism, in the main, is "stupid." I would say that, for those who oppose religion playing any meaningful role in public policy decisions (such as myself), one find a different line of argument than emphasizing one's own atheism, however.

Dawkins is insufferable, but if you watch that video and find the atheist character insufferable, idk what to tell you.

It comes across as a condescending lecture being delivered to a bunch one-track-minded caricatures. The whole positioning of the video is not to teach, but to harangue.

An atheist, a vegan, and a cyclist walk into a bar. I only know because they told everyone within two minutes.

because they're trying to get their point across and they're playing to an audience that already agrees with them.

i don't find preachiness annoying if its cause is righteous, but that's just me.

There's nothing inherently righteous about it, so to many its preachy like other religions.

Similarly, all people believe their opinion is the righteous one. We're no different.
