There is a law that says the government has to have discussions about access to lands. The CBP guy interviewed said they had discussions, but at the end of the day it is going to be what it is.

I spent some time on the Mexican border working with the Border Patrol and ICE about 15 years ago.

BLUF: Native American reservations are treated like independent nations. Federal entities have to be invited onto the land by the tribal leadership. This caused a great deal of angst in Arizona because there is a large reservation that spans across the US-Mexican border and there was substantial human and narcotics smuggling through the reservation.

I am very, very surprised about this - I don't think it's true if they are talking about reservations, but if they are just using the "sacred land" argument it has no legal backing (but a great deal of political clout and never forget what happened in Poltergeist).

the kid's school just announced a LFH day on 11/3 in order to allow parents and staff adequate flexibility to vote. Nice. (And in my case my kid, too, in case his mail-in ballot request doesn't get processed and back in time. I was on his case for a month and he finally sent it in last Tuesday, but PA still is showing as not enrolled in mail-in voting).

So I googled: 'npr native american border wall' and there is a lot of reporting. there are stories about 'Border Wall Cuts Through Native American Burial Sites', endangering the 'Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, recognized by the United Nations as an international biosphere reserve', and more. I cannot parse out if there are lands that are part of the reservation or something else easily/quickly.

no, serious question! The instructions say to seal it. I don't know if these all have to be cracked open by hand or if there is a machine. if the former, every unsealed ballot helps them go a little quicker.

with all the contrived controversy around mail-in, if the wrong person gets to make the decision on valid/invalid, this may get tossed

This has been happening all summer with the Tohono O'odham at the AZ-Mexico border for most of the summer. LG is right, the members of the tribe are pissed because they're taking water from a scared above ground water source (the Sonoran Desert is very hot, by the way, and lacks the water resources of other places in the country) and CBP has been plowing through parts of the Organ Pipe National Monument. I fucking despise the wall for obvious reasons.

I’m at the point where UNC is up 15 with 6 min left over duke but because duke will inevitably start hitting all of their 3s I’m still clenched and awaiting the Austin rivers dick punch.

Or maybe it’s the Gonzaga game where I was despondent until I wasn’t.

She called him on talking points over facts and the pissing match was on. I only listened a little, but it is spew.
