My good friend from Hanover, PA, got involved with the LP this year finally after years of saying he would. Went to a few meetings and I think a larger convention in Philly. He's been a pretty staunch libertarian and has voted that way in the last couple of elections. He was unimpressed with Jorgensen and is voting Trump.

tell him to vote for the libertarian party anyway because if they hit 5% nationally in the general they'll be a viable party that can do debates with the big boys.

True to convince my mom to vote for Jo.

Mitch McConnell's super pac! Why oh why do the Dems need to be so greedy. Laughable!

Jorgensen supports replacing the Social Security system with individual retirement accounts.[24] In the final debate of the primaries, candidate Jacob Hornberger accused Jorgensen of "support[ing] the welfare state through Social Security and Medicare"; In response, Jorgensen called Social Security a "Ponzi scheme" and said that she would allow people to opt-out of the program on her first day in office.

I don't see how a libertarian would support Trump over Biden. Libertarians for example ought to oppose most immigration laws, they shouldn't be so cozy with police in general, and certainly should be pro-choice and letting anyone marry who they please.

Apparently the Biden Town Hall drew 2.3 million more views than the Trump Town Hall according to Variety.com. Ratings are dumb, but I'll enjoy the schadenfreude.

The NBC one was simulcast on MSNBC and CNBC and I don't think that factored into those numbers (cable ratings typically come out later in the day than network ratings do). I'm sure the orange one will be using those added numbers for his narrative, but that just means that many more people watched him come off like a raving lunatic (again).

My friend is 30. I think he believes Trump has been wronged by the media quite a bit. He likes that generally Trump has not started any wars. He thought Russia was a big miss for the Dems and thinks he was treated unfairly. Of course the wars are a big libertarian talking point so it’s not a surprise. I think he just believes Biden is going to be more the version of who he was in the Senate and not the progressive he could be. I tend to think he will be the President for the future not the crime bill Anita Hill guy.

this is huge for me just as a thought exercise of trump as pres. this is the only way trump stands out from other republicans. his foreign policy hasn't been good but how we've not been any major military conflicts while hes been president is baffling to me. its crazy trump is the only one that wants troops out of afghanistan in both parties. of course all of this isn't for any righteous reason or anything it's all part of some grift i'm sure, foreign policy decisions he's made outside of boots on the ground rhetoric have been awful (moving the embassy in israel, assassinating that guy from iran, trying his hardest to stoke conflict with china)

It sounds like your friend is a confused political novice. That description also applies to most young libertarians. For many, it is a phase they grow out of once they determine which major party is more closely aligned to their values.

Well he graduated summa cum laude with a degree in political science so I wouldn't say he's a novice. He's a pretty smart guy. I think he's a bit misguided here, but I'm sure he'll return to voting for libertarians post-Trump. If Amash had stayed on the ballot he definitely would have voted for him.

He's not started hot wars, but has restarted a cold war, and has by accident/on purpose fomented a civil war.

Do not forget that he did almost get us into a war with Iran when they obliterated a senior government official, then as a peace offering did not acknowledge/lied about the retaliation on US troops.

to think trump has been "treated unfairly" is to be willfully blind to the stuff he says and does every single day he's president. he's actually treated way to kindly by the media, if trump really was so hated by the media they wouldn't have been sending thoughts and prayers when he had COVID.

CFP if you do end up talking to your friend about this again you really should urge him just to vote libertarian. him adding to the party's voting numbers is a far more valuable use of his vote. we need to get the libertarian party viable so john mcafee can debate the demonrats and rethuglicans.
