I almost posted that yesterday when I first watched the video. The other two cops are basically bystanders and could have helped keep the guy from getting to his car in the first place.

That part is in the sentence right after the sentence where I say it was stupid to go to the car when his kids were in the car and a cop had his gun pointed at him. I'm going to stand by that statement. As someone with kids, my only thought in that situation would have been my kids and how to keep them safe. The guy is lucky he didn't get one of his kids killed. He certainly put them in danger.

I personally think it's possible for more than one person to make a bad decision. I assume you stopped reading before the word "second."

As for the cop, all three of them really, they did a fucking poor job with the situation. He never should have made it to the car, but once he did, there's no way for the cop to know what he's doing getting in the car. I would like to think shooting someone would have been farther down the list, but sadly that's not how modern police forces work. Fire the cop, charge him if possible, and educate people not to ignore police and try to reach/get into a car. Plenty of blame to go around in this one, imo.

I've had a few run-ins with police myself where I was treated poorly because of the way I looked (long hair, etc) and I'm rarely going to take the side of the cops. I'm certainly not doing that here. I'm white, so I didn't have anyone pull out a gun, but I am not a fan of the police. It attracts a certain type of person and I tend not to like those types.

Yes. Absolutely. I don't know what happened exactly and I only watched the video once, but I didn't see any need for him to even have his gun drawn. That happens way too easily in our law enforcement. And I know they are trained to do it, but I have no idea why he had to be shot 6-7 times. That's horrifying. That cop made sure his kids will hate cops. Well done, asshole.

But once the gun was drawn, the man should have stayed away from the car. I don't care why he was going there. Reaching into a car in that situation will probably get you shot 9 out of 10 times. He had to know that. We all know it. He should have complied, then filed a complaint if he thought the cop acted inappropriately. Instead, he risked his kids for no reason. If anyone, cop or otherwise, points a gun at me, the last thing I'm going to do is go where my kids are.

You keep saying the cop was awful, but I agree with that. You act like I don't, but I do. I just think the man also made a very bad mistake and put his kids in danger in the process.

The whole clip is pretty quick. He may not have seen the gun behind him. I wouldn't expect that had I just started walking back to my car. The cop didn't even look freaked out til he started shooting.

Ok, I was thinking he had the gun out before he started to the car. I only watched it once because I didn't want to watch again. That does change things, if he didn't know the gun was out.
