it's private property. all common land and most importantly roads are maintained by a HOA. if you are not invited or do not leave you can be cited for trespassing.

I understand, for people who are likely to be targeted not for their wealth but for their fame (though the two mostly go hand-in-hand), the reason why gated communities might need to exist. Sad stories about John Lennon, George Harrison, Gianni Versace argue for that: some people are obsessives who unfortunately do not / cannot / will not understand boundaries.

But when I see them going up all over the place, in neighborhoods close to mine, or for collections of town homes for Christ's sake... even my Dad, an arch-conservative who would have been happy to shoot a looter, thought that was ridiculous.

This is all awful, but I have to ask: is there a necessary connection between the woman who voted to reduce police funding and her neighbor being attacked? Not that it's any better but I would think that the hope is that the person whose address is being attacked, not their neighbor. Did the person have the wrong house..?

I live in a gated community. I’m not a fascist and neither are my many good friends here. We’ve been fighting the good fight for liberal causes since before most of you were born.

I think we might want to slow down on the broad generalizations and labeling. I’ve been included in groups of “dumb” and “fascist” the last few days. Isn’t this sort of stereotyping exactly what we would like to see end?

The dilemma was not lost on me when I posted.

My sister’s family lived in a gated community, but they sold their house at the beginning of the year and shed their fascist ways. Well, I don’t think my one year old niece left fascism behind, but the rest of them did.
