A Philadelphia SWAT officer caught on video using pepper spray on a group of protesters at close range during a demonstration on I-676 will be fired, and the police commander who greenlit the use of these less-than-lethal munitions will accept a voluntary demotion, officials announced Thursday.

Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw apologized for the actions of officers under her command, and declared an immediate moratorium on the use of tear gas and pepper spray on any civilians — unless they are “armed and dangerous.”

A start but pepper spray dude should be tried for assault if it's the one who was pepper spraying people sitting on the ground obeying his orders.

Right? I saw this earlier today and I just don't get it. It looks like a park with a fairly large gathering of people peacefully enjoying a violin performance and calling attention to a pretty heinous killing of an unarmed peaceful kid in their city, just because he was a little strange. I get that tensions are high, so I could see a patrol of regular police officers with a light perimeter but staying out of the area and then having these storm troopers waiting in the wings in case it goes sideways. Why this? No one was doing anything violent, no one was doing anything obscene, no one was obstructing movement or business or whatever, what purpose does it serve to send in storm troopers to break this up? This is the shit that foments the violence and riots. If they would just listen and make some changes it could all be avoided, but so many PDs in this country just can't admit when they're wrong.
