Everyone in Europe right now is going to take the train to London and fly out of Heathrow when they feel like flying home.

I have taught on line, and one of my 3 courses this semester isbon line. For one of the others I have materials ready to go. Prepping is more time consuming. And, of course, many elite schools dont do anything on line.

I've been teaching online for 6 weeks now. I like it better in terms of being at home and not dealing with as much stupid shit, but I don't like the loss of student interaction and I am just now starting to learn the tools that will make it better. We were thrown into it. It doesn't help that we're using Teams, which works horribly for something like this.

I'm also more of a project teacher. I think it presses the most buttons for the most kids and it fits my style much better. I can walk around and help students individually rather than doing a lecture. The online stuff feels more like a lecture. Even with the extra gadgets, you're basically passing information.

We're also not allowed to give homework right now, so we have to design the lessons well to get over everything and allow time for practice. We had to also cut out some things. The kids can't keep up because they do not use their time wisely when not in a class. At school, they would be forced to do something, but at home there's lots of distractions. Many of our students are really struggling with it. I suspect that will be the case most places.

On another note, I think this virus has the potential to have long term effects on education.

I know some people think this might change how we do business because companies may find that all the business trips are not necessary. They may be forced to use the new telecomputing technologies and decide that it's much cheaper and worth it once they make it through the learning curve. The initial investment will be forced by the virus, but once that investment is sunk cost, you might as well cut down business travel and save the money. It could cripple the hotel and travel industry.

I could see the same thing happening with education. MANY schools around the world will move to online learning for the next few months, possibly even going into next year. This will force many schools to learn online platforms and many students will do quite well in the format, even if most do not prefer it. The students who do well in this format will want to continue in it. I suspect we'll see a big jump in the number of online high schools around the world. The current situation will also probably drive innovation and new programs and technologies will come out to match the needs of the growing market. Yes, some companies are already working on these technologies, but I think the demand will drive more investment in the area. If I knew I was doing it from the start and could develop better units, I would definitely enjoy teaching from home.

I’d be pretty surprised if there were any schools that weren’t prepared to go online. At work we interact with pretty much every American and Canadian university or jr college and they have online courses and learning management systems.

what are the rules for going about my day? I went into a wawa yesterday that had more people in it than my friends album release party in the city tonight. This morning at Starbucks, workers handled the product without gloves. So this is why I'm confused still.

I think you can admit there is a huge difference between going into a convenience store for a few minutes and a concert with several thousand people and really no idea what’s going on

I don't care about the concerts as much anymore as that point is well made. But my friends band at the Milkboy tonight, like 200 people tops. Where is the line drawn? Can I get dinner at a place? I guess I need to be told "we are locking you down"

I really don't understand your question. Like the rest of life you only have 100 percent control of your actions. You're hygiene response after these 2 events is most important. Personally I wouldn't go to unnecessary places or at the very least avoid peak times.

The virus doesn't understand rules and lines we draw. Are you willing to put yourself and your friends, family, coworkers, etc at additional risk by increasing your exposure to the general public?

I guess I'm just thinking, when do we cut ourselves off from one another? I wanna go support them with my money as everyone is gonna get hit hard here. It's a tricky scenario for sure

So, I have some questions to clear up my confusion. If I get it, am I susceptible to continue getting it, say, after I've recovered? What if I can't recover and I perpetually keep getting it. Also can I still have sex with my girlfriend? She has the sniffles and a cough but is telling me she feels better each day, could be the corona. Haven't seen her in like over a week, and this crisis blew up quickly in that time

I spent most of the winter in a self imposed isolation/hibernation,so coming out of it for the spring has led me to overcompensate for that and fight for my life. I'm gonna have a hard time shutting it down again. Thanks for listening to my rants pals. I'm worried for the world too, I'm just trying to push through on a personal level
