I did my monthly alcohol stock up in Delaware last Friday. Seems like I timed that well.

Some dude up the street from me got it, so I probably got it too right now. Just hope the symptoms don’t show up for a few more weeks. I still got some snowboarding left in the season.

Cross posting from politics thread, but Pence was at AIPAC where two people and others have tested positive for coronavirus (per USA Today).

What is "and others"?

I don’t. I heard it from someone who is pretty connected in Lancaster, but he didn’t say which ones.

Are there any clear criteria backed by evidence for when a school or event should be shut down? As far as I know, we're still in the low 3 digits in terms of confirmed cases, and single digits of deaths. Not only are more people likely to die from flu, a lot more people are probably going to die texting while driving this weekend. Maybe it makes some sense for University of Washington to shut down, but again, if students are in their dorms still how is cancelling classes really going to help?

And if a kid is out of school, are we locking them indoors in isolation, or letting them roam freely around town? If we're closing schools, should we also close every other public facility--libraries, stores, parks?

Points well made. Probably safe to assume that the decisionmakers are guided largely by a sense of what their responsibility is and not some broader sense of the wider impact. There will definitely be lawyers willing to file a case based on “how could you not cancel xyz knowing about that one rumored exposure....”

It seems odd to close schools at this point but we will see if it happens. Maybe a ton of students were exposed somewhere.

People on the princess cruise ship found out about coronavirus positive tests by watching CNN. Moments after that information spread like wildfire through the passengers, the captain got on the intercom and explained that he'd not heard anything himself after hearing it secondhand from passengers watching cable news.

A hotel in China being used as a coronavirus quarantine center collapsed. maybe this 10-day construction thing isn't the best idea. To be fair I have no idea how long it took to build that hotel.

Neighbor stopped over and asked if we had any rubbing alcohol because he had been to two drug stores and there is none there. I gave him a half a bottle and wish him good luck.
