Some clearer international stats are coming out. Seems like mortality rate under 50 is like 0.0005% while the flu is traditionally 0.001%.

Continues to be an older person/baby type concern as really anything. Flu isn’t a great comparison because there is so much prevention done annually (flu shots) to limit its spread. This is presumably spreading so fast because of young folks don’t really get symptoms so they live their normal lives while carrying it to at risk populations.

I think a lot of people are going to die because the administration was not ready or also died at its highest levels to react.

What’s with the bottled water and toilet paper hoarding? I thought this was a viral infection that causes flu like respiratory symptoms not fucking giardiasis.

I think babies and children have less of a mortality rate as well compared to the flu.

I haven't been to a store in a week. But I need some bread and a few other things. I wonder if the panic and hoarding has hit here. Fortunately, I don't need toilet paper, since I bought a huge pack a few weeks ago and we should be good for about 3 months. Water of course comes out of the tap.

The simple answer is they don't know what to do so they are stocking up like other emergencies. Some people wont' drink the water from their sinks so they probably just drink bottled water. Not saying they are smart just giving a reason why they are doing it.

Get yourself a sawyer filter and some Japanese 2L water dromadaries for the dirty side and you are set. I think you can do with for about $40, then when sanity returns go backpacking or back country paddling.

Central Bucks school district closed a few buildings for cleaning yesterday after learning that a few people in the district had been in contact with infected people, or people known to have been exposed, or something like that.

People in my area are all up in arms because Boyertown played a hockey game at CB in on Thursday night.

Do you know which?

I don’t. I heard it from someone who is pretty connected in Lancaster, but he didn’t say which ones.

I haven't heard anything about this did he say it wasn't happening now.

Got word from the government in my area that foreign teachers and students who are not currently in Beijing should not come to Beijing. We are not allowed to enter the country until the school is opening. Until now, they had been trying to get people to come back as soon as possible. I can only assume they feel like they have the virus under wraps and don't want foreigners carrying the virus to come back into the country and relight the fire.

So now I'm trapped in the US. I have a feeling we might be here the rest of the year. If China wants to keep foreigners out until everything dies down, that will be months. Maybe they'll let us back in when they have an opening date, but I doubt it. They gain little and risk everything with that strategy. I think I'll teach the rest of the year or at least most of it from here.

I really want to go to Thailand but my wife won't let me. I can't handle two more months or whatever of the in-laws.

Wish I had gone to Italy before Covid-19 destroyed it. Why couldn't it be more like COVID-18? No one even remembers it.
