This definitely feels like a lose-lose-lose-lose scenario.

haven't been sick for years and i think i got the flu a couple of weeks ago. i've lost 6 pounds and haven't gained it back. kinda disappointed that i was only sick for maybe a day. hoping to get the flu a couple of more times over the winter to get me to my ideal weight. might be best to quit my holistic regimen for a bit.

Got my big Christmas present from my wife tonight... it couldn't be on Christmas itself because it was a new garage door opener, professionally installed. Now I not only have a working remote, I can open and close the door using my phone and can get alerts if I forget to close it. (I did exactly this after leaving for our OBX trip last summer. Our neighbor noticed it later that day and got it closed for us but as the door between the garage and house has no key that's kind of a big deal.) In addition the new opener is much smoother and quieter in operation.

How long am I supposed to keep Christmas cards? Important to note that I do not have a mantle.

I've been averaging seven seconds.

Part of my Christmas bonus was a fucking ham. That's a good Christmas bonus. More companies should give hams.

I got A Christmas bonus. I’m pretty sure I haven’t seen one of those since my first professional job. The placeI am working for now has had this practice, so it’s nothing new to people who work there for a long time, but it was mindbending for me. I’m not trying to be condescending or disingenuous, I’m just more perplexed because it does not seem real or maybe it just feels out of step, but I’ll happily take what’s been given.

If there's zero chance the senders will visit before New Year's Day you're doing fine.

+1

Especially compared to the lazy companies that hand out gift certificates and force you to buy your own ham or turkey.

That's rude. I like having them up. Brightens up my fridge or stair railing.

Next question. What's the proper response to being serenaded by child carolers?

I was out on the road watching my runners the other day and and a group of about 20 young schoolkids was going house to house caroling. How cute, and what an awful racket. I'd suggest having Christmas cookies ready, and make sure they take them before they start to sing.

Was grabbing some lunch at the local deli/meat market. A woman was talking to the owner/head butcher. He asked "How did the vegetarian get stuck with cooking the the Christmas roast?"

She started crying and said "My husband died and I am trying to learn how to cook."

It was so sad. She was crying. I started tearing up. The owner then took her aside and stood with her for ten minutes going over some things she can do to cook the meat. He then stood with her as she paid too. Still upset.

What a deep feeling of loneliness.
