Should they have just invited you for brunch instead?

My Mom has always been an early dinner eater. Like when i was in high school, I’d get home at 3 or so and she was usually eating dinner or had just finished. It was crazy.

I've been watching some Ellen DeGeneres videos via YouTube algorithms and I gotta ask, how come people haven't figured out yet that someone is going to jump out of the box on set and scare them. Every time

Hanna-Barbera's Banana Splits never made any sense to me when I saw it in reruns, but it is apparently returning as a slasher type movie with an R rating which is somehow even more confusing.

like yourself it never made much sense to me as a kid and that's why i actually find this news a plausible excuse for it's existence in the first place. little did we know hanna barbarra was obviously playing the long game.

As I recall, you're sort of young, so I do think if you hate your career in tech, it's time to jump. But don't do so blindly--think about what you like to do, what you're good at, and how you might make a living at it.

I wouldn't give up on tech just yet, unless you're completely burned out and it's impacting quality of life, mental health, etc. There are still plenty of high-paying, cushy tech jobs out there... especially if you can at least pretend to have "Cloud" or "DevOps" skills. Maybe look into changing jobs into something where you can learn that kind of stuff on the fly?

I'm 35. The stress level/timelines are absurd sometimes. Out of the blue I've got a half a dozen emergencies, no one can tell me which one takes priority and there are different PMs competing for my time.

Have you read The Phoenix Project? It helped me get out of a funk where I was burned out and considering a career change. I've jumped around like three of four times since then, and have now settled into a position where I can hopefully stick around for 5-10 years before bouncing for good to become a part-time cashier at Costco or something else like that.

I just think that before throwing away your skills and experience it's worth looking for a new job where they're actually following the DevOps practices described in the book. It's usually pretty easy to figure out with a few probing questions during the interview process (Describe your source code management workflow. How often do you deploy to prod? How many user stories do you have in progress right now? Etc, etc).

Sounds like Soren and I are in the same boat. I am dreading going back to work tomorrow. I still love what I do but I just hate my project and the management of my organization.

I mean, it'll turn around. It is turning around. It's just that the way it's all over the map stress wise is tough sometimes.

There's no turn around in sight where I'm at. Each week has been progressively getting worse than the previous week since June. Already started putting out feelers for other projects around the FAA last week. It has nothing to do with the project itself and everything to do with the people.

We have 5000 active users and there are a few small groups who think their shit is the most important. We spent more time anymore arguing with them instead of getting actual shit done. I have a group constantly emailing management and breathing down our neck for some features they were "promised" over the last two years.

In a meeting on Wednesday I lost it. For 90 mins they complained. Yelling about how they've been telling us for two years. They are so completely inept that have yet to deliver our one simple request ... REQUIREMENTS. You can't build software without requirements. They have given us zero. And what they want is nothing groundbreaking. Two pages of requirements would suffice but they can't even do that and continue to blame us.

Then we have a group of air traffic guys from the ARTCC's around the country. They get together to find the slightest thing to bitch about. The issue last week is about login inactivity. If you're idle for 30 mins you get booted. There's a countdown clock. There's a popup when you have 5 mins and 2 mins remaining after being idle. Yet, that's' not good enough. One asshole wants an audible alert. GTFO. If it comes down to an audible alert you're getting a fucking air horn clip.

we do a lot of weekend getaways. we empty our clothes into the dryer when we return and we also use duffle bags and backpacks as our suitcases and put them in the dryer as well. we also inspect our toiletry bag also for the little critters. so far so good.

bed bug infestation is probably one of my top ten concerns in life. i've heard just horrible stories of trying to get rid of them.
