there was some tweet about the nyt having bedbugs. some professor at gw tweeted that the bedbug was bret stephens. stephens must have name searched and saw the response and sent a letter to the professor and his provost. now stephens has quit twitter and was doing the rounds on tv today saying how twitter brings out the worst in humanity.

Thanks.

Twitter, without a doubt, brings out the worst in humanity.

Took a class from Dave Karpf in grad school. He is a very nice, smart guy who I enjoyed arguing with about politics.

had an exterminator out this morning for wasps under the exterior flashing near my office window

he used a bunch of gook and now the traffic there seems to have almost ceased but now there's like 15 wasps between the screen and my now-closed office window

tempted to just go out and cut the screen so they can get out and leave me alone (i have a spare screen from the window on the other side where i installed my windows a/c)

if you think this act of kindness will help bridge our warring cultures, you are sadly misinformed. the history between wasps and humans goes back for ages and this one act will do nothing to change it. they will continue to attack and sting without provocation at the sight of a human. i would recommend watching them die, while remembering of our ancestors lost to the wasp.

edit... also burning your house down would be a very noble sacrifice for the entire human race.

it's flattering that you ascribe such noble intentions to me, but in reality i want them to get out so they can fly back to the nest and ingest that sweet, sweet poison that the exterminator applied

thinking maybe shop-vac now

risky move, opening their passage to the inside, but they seem to be rather sluggish

Jacob Paul Tapper (born March 12, 1969) is an American journalist, author, and cartoonist. He is a practicing Jew. Tapper is a lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Flyers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Philadelphia 76ers.

Random fact landed on me today. I know he had Philadelphia ties as he spent his formative years there, and since he was all in on the Eagles SB run, but he is a more invested fan then I realized.

Can't you just remove the screen from the outside?

saw where they're getting in- it's actually not via the screen but the "inner" window frame on the inside. So I just caulked that. But now there's a plethora in the foyer, too. Gotta figure out where they are getting in. I'm thinking the poison is causing them to evacuate the hive and they're trying to go anywhere they can.

Oh, and for some weird reason, when the foyer was added in 1995 (prior owners) the wanted a 10' ceiling, so they had to reduce the size of two of the original wood windows by about 12 inches. So they just removed the sashes, cut the from and window stop, and put a "spacer" in the bottom on the windowsill, and threw a pella replacement window in. They were slithering in under the pella and window stop. That's where I just caulked. Of course, a proper installation would have no gaps where that can happen, because if bugs can get through, air can also get through. So it was basically a crappy install job.

yeah, those new versions of windows are almost always more buggy than previous ones.

I'll be fine, my allergist has always told me there's only a 40% chance I'd die from a wasp sting

I've got old aluminum case windows with screens that aren't really secured at all. Come rob me.
