I hope one of these people hammers on the reality that a non-zero part of the problem with our democracy at the moment is “debates” like this one and frankly this entire process of turning the selection of the president of the United States into an 18 month for-profit entertainment television show.

for the GOP debates in 2016 and maybe half of the candidates that are just running for fun are just for-profit entertainment but i think the dem debates are a chance for good candidates like sanders and warren who actually talk policy (which voters love, a big part of why trump won in addition to his name and the idiots that vote is that he talked a huge game on policy his entire campaign) and aren't afraid to go after the center-right dems running (a lot of them masquerading as progressive, even biden lol) to show their stuff to the public and get their message out.. the debates between bernie and hillary in 2016 are a part of why the party has been shiftng more leftward IMO.

Thoughtful article on this issue. I'm a firm supporter, but think Democrats have it very wrong if they want to be supportive of how people actually feel, and by extension, win the election.

War is not popular, as Savior says. Which must be why our current ones get such little air time. Blowing things up in a show of force, then getting out in a"bloodless" way is, though. I would not doubt at all that Trump is hounding people for an opportunity for a stage managed display, such as in Syria, with its pointlesssness being the point.If it has implications then he would have to deal with them,which is not really up his alley, to say the least. Sinking a ship, blowing up a mothballed refinery or deserted military base, something like that. Obviously it's a dangerous line to tread.

If the leak came from the firm (which seems most likely) and not the campaign, firing the firm seems appropriate to me. Of course, Trump being Trump, it's quite likely the firms aren't being fired because of the leak, but because of the results.
