Cuccinelli named acting director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. this guy is a prominent defender of the president, but loathed by many including Mitch McConnell. This article mentions, and I am curious, how an appointment can legally be made since he was not confirmed.

They make up a fake position, appoint him to that, then elevate to acting...then they simply act in perpetuity

Saw tweet of Obama with the 2015 Women's World Cup champs. Wonder if we win this year and they don't get a White House invite, would that be treated as more disrespectful than what's happened with the various pro teams that didn't go? Or would so many players preemptively refuse to go that it wouldn't matter?

President Donald Trump appears to be having second thoughts about his choice of Patrick Shanahan as his next secretary of defense and asked several confidants in France last week about alternative candidates,

This guy of past BSG disrepute just won a primary for State Senate in the Richmond area over a two term incumbent Democrat.

It is just a tiny bit sad to see how incredibly pathetic our president is.*
He clearly was not hugged enough as a child. All these years later he is still out there working for that "Atta Boy" from dear old Dad.

I'm increasingly annoyed at how both those who favor and especially those who oppose things like universal health care, higher minimum wages, and so forth (basically, the left of the Democratic party) are labeled "socialists". That's an incorrect usage of term, most likely stemming from an confusion regarding social democracy and democratic socialism. Socialism, whether democratic or otherwise, stands for more government ownership of the means of production--it would involve the nationalization of major industries and centrally planned economy. (Corbyn does seem to support this somewhat, so if you want to call him a socialist, I guess that's fine.) Social democrats by contrast seek policies like increasing the minimum wage, providing more funding for education, and providing universal healthcare, because the main goal is to mitigate the inequalities inherent in the free market system. It's also inherently democratic--it reflects the classic republican insight that substantial inequalities of wealth result in the imposition of anti-democratic oligarchy or aristocracy.

To be fair, I cringe when people who should know better like Bernie and AOC bring this label on themselves. The distinction matters because socialism (like pure free market capitalism) does not work. It allows opponents of progressive politics to say "but look at Venezuela!" But social democracy can and does work.

Two other important points--social democracy is conducive to incrementalism--because it is democratic, it is self-correcting in a way that a political system based on an economic ideology cannot be. This is most evident when it comes to the environment. Neither capitalism nor socialism protects the environment very well. (I mean, you all saw Chernobyl.) Democratic accountability is essential for the protection of the environment (and any other collective good.)

could you boil that down to something I can put on a bumper sticker or tattoo, TV? Otherwise, nobody will get it.

I mean, it's great, but the false equivalencies have been drilled into people for too long. A healthy democracy depends on an informed citizenry and we no longer have that.
