We won’t. First I believe the new indictment is for a different crime. Also he wasnt acquitted of a crime so it probably wouldn’t apply. Also I’m not sure it would apply even if he were commuted since he would have been acquitted of federal crimes and the new trial would be for state crimes.

The first item is what I was thinking of. He has already been convicted of X, Y, and Z, so hopefully NY is far, far away from those.

Manafort's federal crimes included false federal tax returns. By definition NY couldn't charge him with that but certainly could charge him with false NY state tax returns which would be a separate and distinct crime.

Something to keep in mind as this thing plays out in NY with Manafort...

Vance is the DA that just brought the new state charges against Manafort.

Vance has a complicated history with the Trumps. The same year he opened his investigation into Manafort, he was also under fire for a donation he took from former Trump lawyer Marc Kasowitz.

That story began in 2012, when Vance met with Kasowitz, who had previously donated $25,000 to his campaigns. Vance, at the time, was in the midst of a two-year long investigation of two of Kasowitz’s clients, Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr., for allegedly defrauding investors in the Trump SoHo project. In keeping with what Vance later said was his standard practice, he returned Kasowitz’s donation.

After meeting with Kasowitz, Vance overruled his own prosectors to clear both Trumps. Within six months, Kasowitz donated an additional $32,000 to Vance, and helped raise more money from other donors.


Nonetheless, the reporting sparked outrage in New York, which intensified later that month after his office came under new scrutiny about the circumstances under which it dropped a 2015 investigation into Harvey Weinstein — also after a meeting with the would-be defendant’s lawyers, who were also campaign donors. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo later ordered a review of how Vance handled his office’s Weinstein investigation, and the FBI is, according to the Daily News, looking into how Vance handled both Weinstein and the Trumps.
