So much voter fraud!

Exactly. It would never get to the point of a new President being inaugurated or to the point where Trump is barricaded behind his desk in the Oval Office. Trump will get a couple of Republican controlled states to claim there was voter fraud (I wouldn't be surprised if he really trolled us and blamed the Russians) so that those states' results can't be certified to the Electoral College and, therefore, the election as a whole can't be certified. Under Electoral College rules it would end up before a joint session of Congress with the Vice President (that's right, Pence) presiding as president of the Senate.

If you don't think Trump is already gaming this out and laying the groundwork with his attacks on the Dems, you are kidding yourself.

He's too incompetent to engineer something like this. Who's he going to ask to coordinate this, Guiliani?

If events over the last few years have taught us anything it should be that we underestimate Trump at our peril.

Omar has as much to do with being in the cycle as anything. Good thing that the Dems are helping move on to legislation by tweeting about her. She is not really innocent, and as a repeat offender she is the gift that keeps on giving. Its hard to imagine if she issued a heart felt apology, then paused to be introspective rather then the approach find the next, new, and exciting opportunity to step in it.

Anyway, while she is the new 'it thing' insanity is allowed to reign free. Al cameras on her awaiting the next, next. You have to keep that home fire burning so you (cable news) are ready to pounce. It would seem that any attempts to address the issues are met with some amount of disorganized resistance further watering down any cognizant messaging, further enabling the opportunists. Overall, good job! With friends like that, as that saying goes.

With that shockingly short sentence for Manifort DJT rolls out that the judge, highly respected judge, said NO COLLUSION! Of course this had nothing to do with that topic.

Fox News' Jesse Watters confused Gayle King with Robin Roberts when praising an interview Robert's did with Smollett. King sent an email to Dana Perino to thank her for addressing the gaff on air, and to request that she let the rest of her Fox News colleagues know that all black people don't look alike.

The Democrats' Dilemma - It's a part of this longer article in Politico today that's a pretty decent read I think

Has infighting really damaged the Republicans? I don't really see how.

I'm basically getting to the point where almost all political commentary about this or that being a problem for this or that other thing is pretty much nonsense.

This article isn't bad in itself, but I'm about halfway through it, and there's not a single word about whether or not US policy in the Middle East is actually in our national interest, or the problem with "free college" is that the details of how you get there matter a lot. It's all horse race journalism, and in the end, it's all speculative. If nothing else, one thing we should have learned from 2016 is that such political commentary is totally worthless.

The GOP controlled the House for 8 years and consistently could not do the most basic things like pass a budget or pass appropriations because of defections from the perfect is the enemy of the good folks of the Freedom Caucus (who have mostly, and hilariously, become the least principled/most reflexive Trump defenders when he departs from True Conservatism). This meant they always had to reach out for Dem votes which resulted in bills that had to giveaway items on the Dem priority list. It was a self fulfilling prophecy - fail to pass a budget with GOP votes, add spending that Pelosi and her caucus wanted to get the Dem votes needed to keep government running, GOP leadership are big spending RINO sellouts - that repeated constantly. Beyond what that has meant for governance, I think this also led to party leadership being increasingly unpopular with the base and becoming the whipping boys of talk radio and Fox, in part paving the way for Trump to win the nomination if by nothing else harming the ability of people who may have otherwise had the standing with party voters to affect anything.

A variety of other policy specific examples come to mind, led by Obamacare things. There was the divide that led to the Cruz/HFC gov shutdown over Obamacare in 2013, which was a trainwreck, and then later divisions in 2017 and 2018 on how to approach it, which somehow led to an outcome where limited policy ends were achieved (mandate repeal happened in tax reform not a health care bill), the central goal was completely whiffed on, but the unpopular bills that failed were still voted on and used effectively by Dems in messaging in the 2018 wave.

GOP infighting on the wall led Trump to fail to achieve maybe his most notable policy promise, and also resulted in a completely moronic 5 week shutdown.

republicans dont carry on when one of their members says something dumb. they ignore it or say something brief and never comment on it again. dems do not do that.

This though ignores the basic problem that Republican policies are unpopular, which may have a lot more to do with the difficulty getting the agenda passed than infighting. And despite the unpopularity of most of the agenda, despite the fact that Republicans have lead the country into two disastrous wars and the worst economic collapse since the Great Depression, the Republicans hold the White House, the Senate, the Supreme Court, and a bunch of states.

I think you might point to the excesses of Trump and the Freedom Caucus/Tea Party types costing the Republicans seats in the suburbs. But if Republicans win those seats back, it seems it will increase, not decrease the infighting.

“People in and outside the North had hoped that the second North Korea-United States summit meeting, held in Hanoi, would yield good results,” the Rodong Sinmun, the newspaper published by the North’s ruling Workers’ Party, said in a commentary on Friday. “After it unexpectedly ended without an agreement, they are letting out sighs of regret, all arguing that the United States was responsible.”

Mr. president there someone with a thick Asian accent online one looking for the schmuck in charge. They ask if Donnie dealmaker happen to have seen the North Korean newspaper yet.
