I've seen this but do not understand it. The secret service will protect the new president from a secure location. His detail would surely stand down if he had to be removed from the premises. The football and whatever other president specific things would be taken from him.

And also he is a huge fucking baby and has never actually had a conflict in his life. He talks tough and has no problem demeaning superiors but he's such a wimp that despite his trademark phrase being 'you're fired' he does it by tweet or has other people do it for him. I cannot see this giant man baby actually having a conflict on this level.

Yep, the Secret Service and United States military's loyalty is to the new POTUS, not Dump.

That being said, it would set an awful precedent.

I think that there strategy would be to call the election results into question and invalidate them so he stays president.

So much voter fraud!

It just won't work. Bush v Gore was one thing but assuming that situation doesn't happen again, SCOTUS isn't going to buy this shit.

Exactly. It would never get to the point of a new President being inaugurated or to the point where Trump is barricaded behind his desk in the Oval Office. Trump will get a couple of Republican controlled states to claim there was voter fraud (I wouldn't be surprised if he really trolled us and blamed the Russians) so that those states' results can't be certified to the Electoral College and, therefore, the election as a whole can't be certified. Under Electoral College rules it would end up before a joint session of Congress with the Vice President (that's right, Pence) presiding as president of the Senate.

If you don't think Trump is already gaming this out and laying the groundwork with his attacks on the Dems, you are kidding yourself.

Assuming what doesn't happen again? A Republican-majority SCOTUS cooking up a ridiculous legal theory to keep a Dem out of the WH? Why in the world would we think that's less likely now than it was then?

A 1000 vote margin in one state that had some legitimate vote counting issues. Not amorphous claims of 'voter fraud'.

I've been saying for the past year that I don't expect the peaceful transition of power because it will mean his arrest, but I'm concerned it will take the form of election interference. He's already stopped programs that were being put into place to stop russian interference. There's a lot he can do to keep a fair election from happening. But yeh, if he loses the election, I don't think he'll be able to do much, though I'm sure he'll make some kind of fuss.

He's too incompetent to engineer something like this. Who's he going to ask to coordinate this, Guiliani?

McConnell is devious and competent enough, and he's leading one of the chambers of congress so he has some clout to call the results into question.

I'm more concerned with what he might do on the front end than what he might do after the voting, but I could see a scenario where he tries something like this. Putin probably has people working on learning the tiny details of US election law that could act as levers.

Bottom line, we HAVE to assume the worst at this point because he's shown a willingness to cross nearly every red line.

Democrats are insanely inept at handling controversial things. Can't believe Omar is still a story.

They're very bad! I don't know why in 2019 they're still treating any criticism from republicans as being in good faith.

I know there are many on the left condemning her language too but Nate Silver had it right. Say there are 260 or whatever democrats in congress and you can't control the words of each of them. Disagree/condemn them from the speaker's seat and be done with it.
