@realDonaldTrump
Why is Nancy Pelosi getting paid when people who are working are not?

National Champions and the best you can do is a fast food hamberder? "Umm, sir, your order is ready". And I love that he has to include that he paid. What an absolute asshat this guy is. And, BTW, that was not a typo from Roger, Trump actually posted "hamberders".

No, but I think most of them are happy to let it play out for a little while longer, and some of them are happy to let it go on a lot longer. If the TSA stuff starts spiraling, that might be something that instills urgency. As it stands, I don't think they're feeling much pressure.https://poll.qu.edu/national/release-detail?ReleaseID=2592 wrote:American voters support 63 - 30 percent a Democratic proposal to reopen parts of the government that do not involve border security while negotiating funding for the Wall, according to a Quinnipiac University National Poll released today. Voters oppose 63 - 32 percent shutting down the government to force funding for the Wall, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University National Poll finds. Again, Republicans are the only listed group supporting the shutdown, 67 - 24 percent.
The GOP is losing the battle as 56 percent of American voters say President Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress are responsible for the shutdown, while 36 percent say Democrats are responsible.
These numbers can get worse for the GOP.
Election is in 22 months (and for most of the Senate GOP conference 2-4 years longer away than that). GOP took a lot of heat for the Cruz led shutdown in October 2013 and won a landslide in November 2014.
I think the prevailing opinion within the conference is having gone this far a short term hit is worth trying to get something out of the shutdown. The combination of there being no plan to achieve a positive compromise to resolve the shutdown & the likelihood that images are going to get much worse soon will probably force their hand even if Trump stays stubborn, but they're not there yet.
Unlike 2014, the next election is national so turnout will likely be higher than for a midterm. Also unlike 2014, democrats are super energized and that may carry beyond Trump’s term.

We have had to curtail certain activities, that while very important and valuable to the success of our organization, must cease until the shutdown ends. As such, the organization will be furloughing additional employees on Wednesday, January 16, 2019. Those impacted will be contacted directly by Human Resources via email with an official notice no later than 12:00pm today.
The federal employees here just got this a few mins ago.
Longest 30 mins of some people's lives. Hope it goes ok for you moma. Sorry anybody has to go through this.

Sure, didn't mean to imply the 2013 shutdown was in any way beneficial to the GOP's success in 2014, and I agree there are a lot of reasons to believe Democrats will do well in 2020. Just that recent experience has shown voters tend not to remember what happened the day before yesterday let alone over a year ago, and the baseline assumption is something like this won't have electoral effects. Unless it drags on to the point where effects start rippling out into the broader economy, and we might be getting close to there.

Due for London in April. Shit better be worked out by then. My brother is telling me that he is not getting paid but also cannot be furloughed because controllers are "essential" personnel. This whole situation is so fucked up. All over some half-assed, racist, base-riling campaign promise that nobody, including the presenter, took seriously. Well, it has become VERY serious.
This afternoon, I was informed that although EOSS contractors were fully funded until the end of January 2019, the decision has been made to suspend some tasks so that other key activities could continue into February, and if necessary, beyond. We expect to receive direction from our Contracting Officer to “stop-work” on some activities, or that funding on others will be reduced. Select activities, considered critical, will remain fully funded and staffed. In this manner, the FAA is hoping to stretch the remaining funds, and once new funds are appropriated, speed up the restoration of EOSS activities and contractors.
This direction from the CO is expected within the next couple of days. Once we receive it, we’ll assess the impacts in terms of temporary layoffs and/or reduction of hours, and notify STS employees and subcontractors accordingly.
I’m sorry to say this is not the news I was hoping to share with you at this point.
