Damn, smitty!

Gut wrenching news, smitty. You are an inspiration to us all. You fought and beat the shit out of cancer for so many years before you even mentioned it here on the board. By not giving up and doing experimental trials you have made, and will continue to make, a huge impact on so many lives.

You are one of the best people I have ever known. You have that unique gift of not only being a top notch storyteller but also an exceptional listener. I will always be grateful for how you and Carmen welcomed me into your home and helped me through some really tough years. It was like having an extra big brother or cool uncle, only thousands of miles from home.

Still have never had a mojito that tops yours. And your Seattle cheesesteak is right up there with any of the so called bests in Philly. Watching Doc's perfect game together will always be one of my greatest memories. I am coming to Seattle the second week of September and really hope I get to see you.

Great post, Mick. It says a lot about this board that so many of you made a point to get out and meet the legendary Smitty in real life. Wish I could have done so as well, but I'll always remember his amazing attitude about our teams and also life in general.

As many others have said, I can't tell you how I have enjoyed reading your posts and interacting with you over the years. You are such a funny and wonderful person and I hope your life is filled with loved ones, joy and some phillies wins.

banned poster wwry here smitty. only mentioning that because my interactions with you on that account are the funnest i remember. i've always admired your positivity, and humor. but way beyond that you are an amazing person, one of the best i'll ever know. everyone should aspire to be even a fraction of the man you are, the best rbi man in the game.

Smitty, my heart is heavy. You brought so much heart to this board, which I'm sure is a mere fraction of what you brought to your family and the people around you. It was a joy and a pleasure to read your words over the years.

I never thought that the joys and sorrows of people who I "met" online and never met in person could affect me so much, but we've built a community here over the past decade plus. Be well Carl, wherever you are or will go. You were a valuable member here and everywhere else in your life.
