SharkNATO VII: Russia's Revenge (Politics Thread)

An interesting background story about the emoluments clause is that Team Trump defined it more or less as direct pay to play to the president, which is reasonable strategy as a defense. However the rigid narrowness is also what caused a cry to find a definition. Then answer was, and this is apparently common law practice, to get dictionaries from the time period to determine what the word meant in context to when it was written. It makes sense, but it was new learning to me.

Note: Oh, this appears in today Washington Post. My neighbor is out of town, so I am grabbing his paper off the driveway.

Trump believes that Mueller needs to be disqualified from leading the special counsel due to conflicts of interest. That is pretty rich in and of itself.

He listed three disqualifying conflicts he believed should Mueller:

1) A dispute over fees at Trump’s National Golf Club, which I think led Mueller to leave the club rather then pay for services and benefits he felt he was not getting
2) That he interviewed to be FBI director before being named special counsel
3) Mueller’s previous law firm represents Jared Kushner

probably the GOP frontleader for Florida Governor. The Tampa Bay Times called it 'light-hearted', I consider immensely scary:

Trump goes to Singapore and cowtows to that Korean guy.

Who directed that? Interesting to ponder that one.

Just how much foreign influence is affecting the US at this moment.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Trump says he would meet with Iran's leaders without preconditions

Of course when Obama similarly suggested that this was a path to normalized relationships, he was eviscerated.

just what is up with Daryl Metcalfe, anyway?
Things escalated in June of 2013. Speaking under a House rule called unanimous consent, Sims attempted to address his fellow lawmakers to commemorate the Supreme Court having just struck down the Defense of Marriage Act, only to have his microphone inexplicably turned off. After much heated parsing of the House rules, Sims learned that if a lawmaker objects to another lawmaker speaking on this or that topic during unanimous consent, not only do you not get to speak; you don’t necessarily get to find out who objected or why. But this was no great mystery, and soon all eyes were on Metcalfe: “He looked up at me and said, ‘You want a name? It was me, I did it!’ and then he stormed out the back of the room.” Metcalfe would later tell a reporter that he used a procedural maneuver to shut down the speech because Sims — whom he would later call “a lying homosexual” — was in “open rebellion against God’s law.”

TL; DR: He's a hateful bigot

i saw that he wouldn't bring up a bill Schwank sponsored because he simply doesn't like her and it affected them somehow so she got a Republican to bring it up. Was it something about erosion?

When you lay out what we know it's pretty hilarious how brazen it is to believe 'nothing' happened here;from garbage, liberal Vox:
First, let’s briefly recap what we do know about the Trump Tower meeting:

We know from emails that Don Jr. was offered “information that would incriminate Hillary” that would be “part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump,” and that he responded enthusiastically (“if it’s what you say I love it”).

A few days later, a Kremlin-linked Russian lawyer showed up to Trump Tower along with four others with Russian ties.

They sat down with Don Jr., Kushner, and Manafort (who was Trump’s campaign chair at the time).

Everyone involved has claimed for a year that meeting was uneventful and resulted in nothing. Trump himself also dictated a deceptive statement by Don Jr. about the meeting when it first came to light, pretending it was mainly about Russian adoptions.

Kamala Harris introduced a bill to give a tax credit to any family making under 125,000 a year and paying more than 30% for their rent and utilities. it's being derided by leftists as 'milquetoast' and 'centrist'. LOL!

Did any of them deride it as moronic? They'd be getting closer with their adjectives if so.

nah, they seemed to have forgotten 'a pretty decent idea we can play around with'

Housh - do you find an idea that would benefit a ton of people and fundamentally change the tax code is milquetoast? Where did I say 'fuck the left' considering I'm in it? I find there's a segment that refuses to push for any program that they view as not enough change. It's very frustrating.
