Right, they still chant Lock Her Up at all of his rallies. That's their secret, they're always mad.

maybe this is pessimistic of me but i dont know that theres an answer right now to why dems dont win elections with the way the world, media, and social media is setup right now. and not to mention gerrymandering/self sorting issues that give republicans a strong systemic advantage.

It’s not just the red hats though. This is the kind of thing relatively moderate people hear and cringe about.

Not saying it’s a huge deal or am by any means drawing any kind of equivalency with the dogshit right. Just bracing for another brutal election.

I agree. I think the word "Deplorables" probably won the election.

seize the means to own the libs:
In order to bolster coal-fired and nuclear power plants, the Trump administration is working on a pair of federal laws to order grid operators to buy electricity from the plants.

The U.S. Department of Energy would use emergency authority to direct the operators from at-risk facilities, according to Bloomberg.

The agency also wants to develop a "Strategic Electric Generation Reserve" to promote national defense and maximize energy supplies, according to a draft National Security Council memo, Bloomberg reports.

Nuclear and coal-fired plants are struggling against renewable energy sources and cheaper natural gas.

There was upside, it was just naive and backfired. The whole cycle there was talk of the reluctant/silent Trump voters who did not agree with his behavior or actions. She was appealing to the people in the other basket

But the "other" basket — the other basket — and I know because I look at this crowd I see friends from all over America here: I see friends from Florida and Georgia and South Carolina and Texas and — as well as, you know, New York and California — but that "other" basket of people are people who feel the government has let them down, the economy has let them down, nobody cares about them, nobody worries about what happens to their lives and their futures; and they're just desperate for change. It doesn't really even matter where it comes from. They don't buy everything he says, but — he seems to hold out some hope that their lives will be different. They won't wake up and see their jobs disappear, lose a kid to heroin, feel like they're in a dead-end. Those are people we have to understand and empathize with as well.

I like Samantha Bee's program. I think the right was definitely looking to counter the Roseanne thing. I would be very sad if TBS cancels Bee, because I think she does good reporting and analysis--much better than I see elsewhere on television. But still, she did not use good judgment here. And there were other, better ways to make a stronger point, because what this was about, the Trump policy of separating children from their parents is so outrageous that using profanity in this way merely distracts from that issue.

At best, this is a huge lost opportunity to expose the shocking reality of Trump. Really disappointed in this.

Tbf, she probably figured she was safe with a four-syllable word.

not having a smart campaign strategy and having a bad campaigner as your nominee probably lost the election, not this. if it wasn't this comment, it would've been something else. ANYTHING will be picked apart or chosen as the outrage. the right wing media machine is simply something that must be dealt with by ignoring it and its whims. real media outlets should stop cowtowing to the absurd outrage of the day, politicians shouldn't respect it, and we shouldn't bother responding to all of it all the time. I myself fall prey to it, but I've really tried of late to ignore it outside of mocking it.

30% of our country wants an authoritarian party and will simply follow whatever the leaders and its media arm says. concentrate on convincing the rest of the country.

I didn't want this to get bottom-paged

they are literally intervening to help struggling coal plants over growing renewable energy and natural gas sectors, both of whom employ far greater numbers of people in the very areas coal exists. way to own the libs?

owning libs is their only governing principle. the free market is dead. the party paul ryan thought he was leading is dead. jersey should just jump ship and get it over with.

The right wing outrage machine works (especially in this case) because the mainstream media pays so much attention to it, and they aren't going to explain why, though Bee showed poor judgment, it's very different from what Barr did. Attacking an individual in a rude way is different from making racist and religiously bigoted attacks on twitter.

They're just hedging their bets. They got their money from the tax cuts, and now they need to keep enough moderate Democrats in power that when control of one or both houses go Blue nothing too drastic can occur.

I agree. This is why I was so annoyed at Gillibrand a few weeks ago. She was at some event with other top democrat hopefuls. In the middle of her speech about women's issues, she said that we wouldn't have had a financial crisis if Lehman Bros was called Lehman Sisters. On top of being ridiculously sexist and not actually very funny, she may have lost 10-15% of the electorate with that one joke. I guarantee it will be played again and again (assuming it's on tape/video) if she's in the serious running for POTUS. It's the type of comment that cements tribalism and gains you nothing.
