Charges against J20 dropped:
Government lawyers have pursued felony charges against everyone they could connect to the Inauguration Day march branded as #DisruptJ20, generating dozens of separate group trials that sprawled out over nearly a year and a half.

Their case relied heavily on videos provided by the right-wing hoax group Project Veritas. Prosecutors now stand accused of hiding some 69 separate video and audio recordings provided by that group from defense counsel, including material the lawyers say would have helped their clients.

“They have offered no explanation why they did not apprise the court of the existence of these videos,” Chief Judge Robert Morin said.

The newly-discovered videos emerged just days before jury selection would have begun in the case that was dismissed Thursday, prompting a lengthy overnight filing from defense counsel that laid out evidence the prosecution has been reckless or perhaps even malicious in its management of evidence.
the prosecution relied on James O'Keefe videos!

Stop giving them fodder is what I mean.

We will only win on issues, they on outrage.

So Trump is pushing ahead with the steel and aluminum tariffs. Threatening tariffs on cars. Between that and the exploding deficit, is high inflation far behind? I wonder how the American public will deal with that--employment remains strong (though that will put pressure on inflation) but for how long, and will wages keep up with prices?

Well, it should help out people with fat student loans. Sucks to be in academia though, as it's unlikely our salaries will keep up with prices, thanks to Baumol's cost disease and all that.

Anyway, it's been so long since we've really had inflation. If we find ourselves in a situation where inflation is high enough that purchasing power is reduced, how does that affect politics? Unlike increasing unemployment, which really is only a serious problem for the portion of the electorate that is unemployed (though it does put downward pressure on wages and does increase insecurity) inflation affects everyone, though the pain is not as severe.

Of course, there is always the threat of stagflation--especially if Trump continues to pursue trade wars.

I didn’t say that. I’m saying she shouldn’t have said it and that it hurts the left more than it helps.

Trash Ivanka on the issues.

I don't believe what I'm going to write, but I do believe it's an idea some people have:

The GOP/right/trolls thrive on making mountains out of molehills and driving outrage to the elections. As such liberals and media should know better/think twice especially when directly invoking a Trump family member.

What I really believe is that the outrage machine is bullshit and bowing to it only reassures it.

There isn't, but it's not a zero sum game. I agree with your edited out part of your last post. It was a dumb and cruel (I think those were your words I only saw it briefly) thing to say.

I also don't think Samantha Bee is the bellweather test for 2018 or 2020. The elections that have taken place in state legislatures and in special elections for Congress have shown that the noise can be pierced. Just this week Virginia passed expanded Medicaid because the legislative gains in the elections and Phil Murphy and NJ Democrats are expanding voting rights incredibly.

I probably agree with don't call her a cunt for those reasons. But once you do, don't apologize.

And dems aren't going to win on issues because issues don't move people. We ran on issues in 2016 (and 2014 and 2010) and here we are.

Not saying she’s the bellwether. Just that it all counts and I’d just as soon as much of focus be on issues always.

That’s debatable but we DO know the right thrives on this shit. So let’s maybe try to avoid it.

they'll simply find something new to be outraged by. this is just sam bee's turn on the wheel. next week it'll be some other random comedian or celeb. they create issues out of whole cloth (MS-13 is taking over our country!!!!) even if everyone held their tongues and put out their pinkies. I agree with you that we should stop playing their game, but stop it by not bothering to think about what they think while also realizing hypocrisy is dead and useless.
