@realdonaldtrump

Much of the bad blood with Russia is caused by the Fake & Corrupt Russia Investigation, headed up by the all Democrat loyalists, or people that worked for Obama. Mueller is most conflicted of all (except Rosenstein who signed FISA & Comey letter). No Collusion, so they go crazy!

Unholy WTF? Be afraid, very afraid.

'reform':
According to reports from Politico, Republicans in charge of the House Agriculture Committee want to impose work requirements on more people, including parents of school-aged children and adults between 50 and 65 years old.

The draft of the farm bill also reportedly calls for severing ties between SNAP and another program called LIHEAP, which helps low-income households pay their energy bill. Most states use a little-known rule in SNAP that increases a household's food stamps if they participate in LIHEAP.

Finally, the committee bill would eliminate a provision -- known as "broad-based categorical eligibility" -- that allows states to simplify the enrollment process for food stamps when someone is already on another welfare program. The enrollment shortcut is believed to be one of the reasons that SNAP caseloads are still about 60 percent higher than they were at the start of the Great Recession. A slow economic recovery, with years of stagnant wage growth, is thought to be another reason.

Could it be one small question that doesn't instantly make people eligible but simply removes one barrier that makes caseloads higher or could it be an overrated economy that doesn't help people in low-paying or no-paying situations? Hmmmm, boy I don't know

People who are eligible who may not realize they are eligible is the real problem, not the average recovery and low wages! Need to cut cut cut

Republicans are only against “job-killing” regulations, not people-killing regulations.

get them off the welfare roles and onto writing advanced algorithms, creating next generation nano materials, etc. We need these people to fill these open jobs. I am sure they have advanced STEM type degrees, but welfare is a better deal. Those quantum computing, materials engineering, computational design, organic robotic jobs, etc. ain't gonna fill themselves (notice I skipped AI, which could go all skynet and fill those jobs).

I can't get anyone to fill these:

GNC Satellite Attitude Determination & Control Engineer
Senior Electromagnetic Environmental Effects Technician
EEE Parts Failure Analysis Engineer
Information Security Engineer
Full Stack Software Engineer

<these are a sample of the dozens of SpaceX jobs, but they do need some baristas and dishwashers too. Oh, and I am not a SpaceX employee, it was just easy to know where openings were.>

So the tide change represents some danger for the Dems. If they sweep in and waste a bunch of time and capital running investigations, it could invite Trump term 2 as they will be ineffective. So if there is a change, there has to be meaningful progress made, hard problems thoughtfully approach, and for god sakes, have a plan.

I've wondered if there will be a rise of independent candidates. More libertarian with a little "L", as I think that many Americans support fiscal conservatism with social consciousness. I also think that these folks are disgusted by lip service about "religious values" while the overt actions are to stomp on the down trodden. In the end, with the pacific like divide of today, is damn near impossible to manage.

What exactly do you expect them to change with one chamber of congress and an executive branch that they maybe have one thing in common (infrastructure? but not at all how infrastructure would be accomplished).

and with respect to libertarians...hopefully not. fiscal conservatism and true social consciousness are diametrically opposed. i dont mean like 'let gay people serve/marry etc.' social consciousness.

I respectfully disagree. I think that fiscal responsibility is a wedge used to divide social consciousness. In current practice it has no chance, but that is a change state to attack.

Dennis Ross makes it sound like Ryan's pending time off will be a run up to a future presidential election.

Just for a laugh, FL-15, Ross' district, is literally ~20% swamp.

Good luck with that. He has a Marco Rubio problem. The far right, which votes in big numbers in primaries, hates him. Ryan and Rubio are bought politicians who only look to benefit a small group of wealthy donors, and the voters (on the right and left) know it.

Who could have foreseen that tax cuts would balloon the deficit?

We sure could've used the $6-8 billion that Exxon Mobil will pocket because of the tax cuts.

HB722 in PA, the House bill to make the district creation process non-partisan, has been gutted by the PA GOP and a poison pill was added at the committee level that actually turned it into something that would give them MORE power over the process than they already currently have.

SB22 is the only bill left and needs more sponsors.

Remember, Paul Ryan had a primary opponent, and presumably this guy is now the front runner for the R nomination in Ryan's district.

His name is Paul Nehlen. In our fun world of journalism, he's just a a far right candidate, or if you prefer, white nationalist. But actually, he's a fascist asshole. Heckuva party you've got there. Of course, the Republicans say they want nothing to do with him, but then again, that's what they said about some other guy who now has approval ratings of 89% among Republicans. And they also said that about that child molester from Alabama, but voted for him anyway, and sought to normalize 30 year olds groping 15 year olds.

I don't know what it is with our media and all these polite euphemisms for fascist asshole they keep coming up with.

I don't think white nationalist is a euphemism. He's also blatantly antisemitic and doxxed some other prominent white nationalist/racist asshole the other day. I don't remember the guy's name, but he was apparently huge in the white supremacist twitter.

GOP has until (I believe) June 1st to find some other horrible human being to run.

The Wisconsin GOP has known for some time that Ryan was going to do this and odds are he chose to announce now because they have someone lined up to take on the nazi dude.

I really do think white nationalist is a euphemism. It sure sounds much better to my ears that nazi or fascist. Not to go all conspiratorial, but there really does seem to be a push to normalize political ideologies that at one time were beyond the pale. At best, it's an attempt by mainstream journalists to appear "balanced". Calling a nazi a nazi is seen as being "biased" or "judgmental" so we use less loaded terms like "alt-right" or "white nationalist". Doing so I think clearly serves the purposes of the Trump and the Republicans--it allows Trump to talk about good people on both sides, thus making it clear to nazis that they have a safe space within today's Republican Party. If we called the demonstrators in Virginia what they really were--that is, nazis and fascists, it might be a little more difficult for the Republicans to embrace them.

But let's not kid ourselves, whatever we call them, they are a significant part of the Republican coalition.
