Do any of the restaurants still exist? I know people like to complain about chains such as Ruby Tuesdays and such, but those people probably never ate at Friendly's, or Hojos. It's a wonder places like Denny's manage to stay on.

I do however remain committed to my anti-Applebee's stance.

Having really good luck getting free woodford reserves on flights lately. Either they'll give me two and only charge for one, or give me one and not charge at all.

yeah, they gave me two-for-one. Delta

Went to a Friendly's in Myrtle Beach with my son a couple weeks ago. It was the only ice cream place we could find that was open.

Might be something subliminal in craving all that sausage.

I'll eat at a Chili's if there aren't other options, but Applebees is the worst.

I do remember enjoying Friendly's ice cream as a kid, but even as a kid I don't think I cared for the food much.

They just shuttered the Roxborough Friendly's. No reason given. The local internet rant group says it was dirty filthy and had gone downhill. I worked there for a bit in the early 80s and it was a cool place then. Used to have an hour wait on Sunday mornings for breakfast.

They are also closing the Upper Dublin location, saying their lease was not renewed.

A couple weeks ago I actually tried to find the "Still alive in 20xx" threat to put Friendly's in as a possible imminent casualty but I couldn't find it and I gave up.

We took the kids to a Friendly's a few years ago for dinner and ice cream, I remember the food being pretty mediocre, just random fried salty stuff, and the bill for dinner for 2 adults and two kids being like $60 which I found ridiculous.

At least at applebees I can have a shitty $1 Margarita.

There used to be a bunch of friendly’s around me and I’m pretty sure only 1 is open still and that’s a tiny 1 in the mall

I’m guilty of going to Applebee’s more than I should but it’s a 2 minute walk from my house and I have a buddy that bartends there so I go there to mostly drink, once in a while I’ll get an appetizer there

Was the skywheel at least open?

No. It was the middle of the week, the week after spring break. There was not much of anything open.

Applebee's is fine. It knows what it is, and what it isn't. It's not a place you take your girlfriend to on your anniversary and expect her to be impressed, but it is a place you take your family when you don't feel like cooking that night.

There is an Applebee's within walking distance of the hotel I typically stay at when I travel for work, although I haven't been there in a while. I'll check it out next time!

What the heck is the name of our chance encounters with famous people thread? It doesn't seem to have chance encounter* or famous in the title.

Had been having a bit of Internet trouble over the last few weeks. Last night it seemed like the modem and gateway had finally met the end. Then I realized the coax cable wasn't attached. It made me question whether or not it ever was for a few minutes, then I realized that was stupid. Didn't really think they could ever loosen that much from the modem over time to the point of falling off. Forever a mystery I suppose.

If Forrest gets the hand-off before Bobby shoots the gap and blows up the exchange he scores.
